Alexander the Great Mentality

Scripture

You know all about us, inside and out.  You are mindful that we’re made from dust.

~Psalm 103:14, TPT

Quote

We despair because we think we ought to be in spiritual orbit by this time, and we are barely skimming the treetops.

~Chuck Swindoll

In Matthew 25 Jesus told the parable of the talents. I do understand that the talent was a measure of silver which would equate to money. However, I think the same thing is true with out abilities. The LORD, in His infinite wisdom, gives more to some than others. If you are a one or two talent guy like myself, it is not likely that you will produce five talent results. Some of us have what Swindoll calls an Alexander the Great mentality. We feel like a failure if we don’t conquer the world. What I am saying is–a person can be too hard on  their self. David was definitley a five talent guy but even he struggled. Psalm 13 is music to my ears. David begins this Psalm by saying, “I am hurting, LORD.” He goes on to say, “How much longer will You look the other way when I’m in need?” Matter of fact, David asks several probing questions in this brief Psalm. “How much longer must I cling to this constant grief?” “How much longer will my enemy have the upper hand?” This last question got my undivided attention. Are you tired of failing? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Are you soaring high like an eagle or just skimming the treetops?

My daddy used the term “Flying high” many times and I didn’t really understand what he was saying. Most of us would like to get high enough that treetops and phone towers would not be a problem. Joy and enthusiasm would be appropriate for all believers but we struggle to be joyful in our corporate worship. The next time you are in a praise service, just look around and see how many people are exercising joy. Folks if we can’t get happy in worship we are really going to have a problem in the world. David had the right solution, “Breathe Your life into my spirit. Bring light to my eyes {put a sparkle} in this pitch-black darkness.” This is exactly what we need. The Breathe {Ruach} of heaven moving in our spirit.

Didn’t have time to spell check the blog. I forgot to post this morning and now we are headed to the 49ers Fellowship. Have a great day and work through the spelling.
