Scripture
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
~Romans 3:23, NASB
Quote
Before the holy God all humans fall short, but His grace is greater than our sins.
~Daniel J. Estes
I am reading the NIV commentary on Psalms and Daniel Estes writes the second volume. When I read his quote above, sparks began to fly. I have known for a long time that we all sin and come short, but suddenly Romans 3:23 took on new meaning. I don’t want to compare my righteousness or devotion to men like Moses, Abraham, Joseph or Paul, but in reality, all these great men of scripture had faults; they came short. Moses had a bad temper and in a fit of rage, he murdered an Egyptian. Abraham jumped the gun, tried to create his own light, got in the flesh and Ishmael was conceived. Joseph was not only arrogant, he was a fascist, he subtly took the property rights from the people and gave them to Pharaoh. The government ends up owning everything in Egypt. David not only had an affair with a married woman, he had her husband killed. The husband was a better man than David in many respects. Paul who was known as Saul was an angry little Jew who hated Christians and he took part in the murder of Stephen.
Do I feel superior to any of these men? No, not at all. My name should never be mentioned along side their names. They are spiritual giants and I am a dwarft. But they need the grace of God just like I do because we all come short. It is never a matter of who comes shorter than who: unless you are perfect, you come short. So when it comes to being ‘sinners’ we are all in one lump or group. Moses and I are saved by the same grace.

If you can get outside before sunrise, you can see the crescent moon and two planets nearby, Venus and Jupiter. Venus is shinning like new money. I think cooler weather is on the way and perhaps a little rain. All in all, it has not been a bad summer.
Today is doctor day: laser procedure in left eye this morning and check up this evening. This is what happens when you get old.
Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.

Movie buffs. I was looking for the Bourne Movies on YouTube Monday Sunday night and I found the original {Bourne Idenity} starring Richard Chamberlain and Jaclyn Smith. It was made in 1988. It comes in two parts. It is the same basic script except the girl doesn’t get killed on this one. I don’t like sad endings and this one ends well. It had zero commercials and no bad language.
