Gambling Does Not Pay

Celebrate Jesus

Scripture

Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.

~Proverbs 13:11, NIV

Quote

“Where gambling enters, prayer leaves; where greed grows, faith dies.”

~Dwight L. Moody

Rose, alias “Charlie Hustle,” alias “Mr. Baseball,” was known for many years as a winner, but he was living a double life. Pete Rose was a compulsive gambler. Gambling was his god. He bet on college sports, horses, NBA and even on baseball and his own team. He lost as much as $400,000 to one bookie and lived in perpetual debt. He sold everything he could get his hands on to pay gambling debts and to continue his gambling. The man that so many admired for his play on the diamond was a jerk and had absolutely no character. His collision at home plate with Ray Fosse was totally unnecessary. It was an all star game for Pete sake and beside that he could have slid. The front of the plate was open. Watch the video of Rose taunting Fosse who is laying on the ground in pain. The sports world gave Rose a pass and some even labeled it the greatest highlight in All Star history. It is enough to turn your stomach. Pete got away with the malicious hit but his lack of character eventually came to the top and the whole world found out about Charlie Hustle.

Once the truth came out about Pete’s compulsive gambling, he was banned from baseball and denied entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame which he coveted for vain reasons. He needed more capital for his gambling activities and his name recognition would go up in value if he was a hall of famer. Of course Rose was unfaithful to the wives of his children and had poor relationships with all of his children. Two by his first wife and two by the second and one from an affair. The fifth child, a daughter, was acknowledged after a paternity suit. In other words, DNA revealed that Rose was the father. He was one classical piece of work. No man that gambles is a winner. I do realize that eight out of ten will disagree with this last statement but it is what it is. Dwight L. Moody and Charles Spurgeon would agree and that is enough for me.

We were down attendance wise last night. I don’t know if it was the time change or what. Don’t forget our Veteran’s week Stew next Wednesday night at 6:00.

Jo put on FB last night that she is coming home: hopefully, already there. June and I were going over this evening but we are thrilled that she got to come home. I don’t care for Huntsville traffic, especially this time of year. Lord willing, I will be burning brush today. I enjoy burning brush piles. I can start a fire in the rain if it is not a down pour. Squeak is loaded with my pyrotechnic supplies and equipment. All I need is a flame thrower. DBC had one but someone must have gotten it. I looked for it a week or so ago.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
