Guard The Heart Against Greed

Scripture

And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life.

~Psalm 62:10, NLT

Quote

The bible teaches the distribution of wealth: it is called “giving,” not socialism or marxism.

~Ya’akov

I like the NKJV version of Psalm 62:10,  “If riches increase, don’t set your heart on them.” Proverbs 23:5 states…In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. Technically, we can possess nothing. The Hebrews did not have a verb for ‘have’ because you can’t have anything. God owns everything. Psalm 24;1, 89:11, and 1 Corinthians 10:26 reminds us that the earth belongs to the LORD and everything on it and in it. What does that leave you and I with? Nothing!

Money is big to us but it really has no value with God. It is a tool that we use, not a god to be worshipped. Money makes a great servant but a lousy god. I was told by a millionaire who had ten children and had his own business [I think it was insurance] that there are five ways to get money: [1] Illegally {Rob, defraud, embezzle} [2] Inherit [3] Work [4] Welfare and [5] Investment [let your money work for you]. So there is a right way and a wrong way to acquire wealth and when you get it, hold it lightly. It is not yours and it can be taken away in a heartbeat. Honor the LORD with what He has entrusted to you.

Billy Graham knew a wealthy man who had made 13 million over night on an investment. Graham had breakfast with him the next day and all the man wanted to talk about was his scripture reading for the morning. Graham realized that this man’s deeper interest was not in money but in the word of God. How refreshing.

You may not believe but we got another flood this morning early. It was raining when I got up and when I was eating breakfast. We have standing water in the ditches. I may not get to cut them until August.

For the curious and inquisitive: Charles, David and I will meet with Dustin Lorance and his wife this evening at CB. We are interviewing them for the YOUTH and CHILDREN. I don’t have her name but she is applying for the Children and she has work experience. The LORD may be looking out for us. You pray for HIS will to be done.

Our plans seem to change daily. Jeremy’s sister-in-law was killed in an automobile accident on Sunday or Monday I think and the service is this evening. June and plan to attend. Buddy and I had intended putting the tin on our tractor shed but that will have to wait. You never know from one day to the next

Prayer vigil Saturday night from 6:00-9:00 at the church. Senior Women’s Bible Study class. If you didn’t sign up just come on to the 6:00 session. Each session last approximately 30 minutes. You do not have to pray aloud. I am not on FB but Andrea made a post yesterday I think. It is about Lincoln and is very moving. This child’s back is against the wall and we have to support him. I urge you to give it thought. We will be praying for Christy as well. Neither have had a good month.

God bless you, have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
