Rules Of Civility and Decent Behavior

Scripture

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

~Colossians 4:6, NLT

Quote

Knowlege is learning something new everyday; wisdom is letting go of something each day.

Hold on to your hat, this is going to blow your mind. George Washington made for himself a list of rules to govern his behavior when in the company of others. It is unbelievable. He would give me a chewing every day. He had 110 things on the list but I will share only a few…

  1. Show respect to everyone
  2. Do not touch anyone inappropriately {not how he stated it but what he meant]
  3. Never hum, sing or make wierd noises in the company of others
  4. Always turn aside if you cough or sneeze using a handkerchief
  5. Never sleep when someone is speaking
  6. Never undress, even in part, before others {take off your jacket}
  7. Don’t cross your legs {men}
  8. Don’t bit your nails
  9. Don’t spit in the fire
  10. Don’t turn your back on someone who is speaking
  11. Never use flattery
  12. Do not speak loudly or laugh loudly {I am in trouble}
  13. Be brief; let your discourse be short and comprehensive
  14. When you visit the sick, don’t pretend to be a doctor
  15. Associate with good men: it is better to be alone than in bad company
  16. Think before you speak
  17. Don’t scratch an itch or clean your finger nails
  18. Never get angry at the table
  19. Never whisper in the company of others
  20. In the presence of superiors, don’t speak until you are spoken to

This is a sample: there are 90 more. What do I think about this list? I think it is absolutely incredible! I don’t have a problem with the list; my problem is complying with what’s on the list. I think George Washington was a distinguished gentleman of noble character. Someone we can all look up to and respect. If you have never read Thomas Flexner’s GEORGE WASHINGTON: THE MOST INDESPENSIBLE man in American History; you need to read it. A part of the left’s agenda is to destroy the credibility of Washington and to exonerate Lincoln, which they have done, but unsuccessfully with me. By the way, all our founding fathers understood that America was a republic {ruled by constitution that cannot be changes without a two-thirds vote in congress and ratification by the States}. This democracy propaganda got started with John Dewey and the Progressives.

I was just blown away by the list and wanted to share it with you. I think it is incredible. I sure wish I lived in compliance.

I thank and praise God for the weekend; no complaints. I may have gotten too hot on Friday  and my energy level dropped. I was moving slow Sunday morning but got to feeling much better in the afternoon, PTL. God has been good to us and I praise HIM.

Grace Point: Josh will be with us Wednesday night, Sunday and the next Wednesday {July 23]. The 23rd is his last service with us and we are going to do an ice cream supper in the fellowship hall. No service, just the ice cream and fellowship. He will be leading our team to Guatemala then next day {July 24} and from there to Texas.

Lincoln is going to the clinic today to see if his surgery is still on. It was scheduled for next Monday July 21.

I want to thank our sponsors; I do not do it often enough. Like everything else, the blog has gotten more expensive with time. I don’t get to sail under the DBC flag anymore so we have our own domain. Perry Smith has paid for the last two plus years and Gregg Holiday became a sponsor last night. June says we renew in September. Gregg has not missed a blog in ten years. I say that is incredible.

I hope you have a great day and week. You working folks have my sympathy: you can look forward to retirement when every day is Friday, except Saturday and Sunday.
