Samson’s Incredible Weakness

Scripture

If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself;
but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

~Proverbs 15:31, NLT

Quote

Discipline is the choice between what you want now and what you want in the future.

Samson was known for his incredible strength but his story is one with a tragic ending. Samson was strong physically but terribly weak in other ways. Possibly, he greatest weakness was his lack of discipline. He basically did as he pleased. He may have worked out occassionally or spent some time at the gym, but he spent no time with the LORD, was not at all familiar with the LORD’s word. He basically broke all the rules and lived as though he was a priviledged character. I don’t think there is any evidence that he broke his vow by drinking, but he broke it in other areas. The chased women and the women he chased were not virtuous. Samson was not looking at the heart if you get my drift. Samsom did not obey his parents and he broke his nazzarite vow more than once. He is the poster boy for a carefree undisciplined life.

You may be admiring Samson thinking this is a bold way to live. Forget the Bible, the rules of law and pursue whatever you want. Fight with your neighbors over land lines or with your sibling over an inheritance, but don’t fight your own sins and weakness. Spend all your time chasing your David [the one you blame for your problems] and neglect your own weakness. What happened to Samson can happen to you: the Philistines will enslave you and you will end up serving them instead of God. If you choose to live in darkness, you will die in darkness.

PTL we harvested some corn yesterday and had it for supper last night. I think the Christmas lights are working but not positive. June got the corn and she doesn’t know the difference between ground hog damage and coon. Ground hogs mess, coon devour and leave nothing but a cob. We got more rain.

Lord willing, headed to Elkmont in a few minutes: Ty has two games there today. The road {I think it is 66 in Tennessee} that goes from Athens to Pulaski is a beautiful drive once you cross the Elk just north of Elkmont.

I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
