Scripture
O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
~Psalms 107:1, KJV
Quote
We ought to give thanks for all fortune: if it is good, because it is good, if bad, because it works in us patience, humility and the contempt of this world and the hope of our eternal country.
~ C.S. Lewis
I came across the name John Hus the other day in my reading and so I listed to his biography on YouTube. This lead me to John Wycliffe, the most brilliant scholar in Europe. John was an exceptional student at Oxford and began his career as a Catholic Priest. Latin was the language of priest and scholars and John mastered it in no time. He saw the discrepancies between what the Catholic Church was teaching and what was in the scripture which had been corrupted to some degree. Then a man named Erasmus gave him a Greek translation which came from the original manuscripts and John really saw the light. He began speaking out concerning the Church’s disregard for what the bible really teaches.
Now for the unbelievable part: There was a law in England, no English translations and it was punishable by death. One young man was burned at the stake for having a copy of the Lord’s Prayer. It was illegal to read the Bible in 14 century England. The excuse of the Clergy was that the laity couldn’t understand the Bible and printing it would only lead to more ignorance and confusion. The truth is: they didn’t want lay people to find out what they were doing. Wycliffe was bound and determined to get a bible in everyones hand who wanted to read it and there was great hunger for the word. He became a futugive and an outlaw in England. He fled to Germany to continue his work but due to a conspiracy, he was tricked into coming out of his safe house where he was arrested and condemned. Like his LORD and Savior, he was not given a proper hearing but condemned and burned at the stake. Because he was a scholar who had mastered eight languages including Greek and Hebrew, he was strangled before burned.
So my first thanks today is for the WORD OF GOD in the English language. Thank you John and Jesus! My second and third or down to earth. We were without water for several hours yesterday and then without electricity from 6:20 pm-2:00 am. Thank God for a generator and battieres. I slept like a log with our little Dewalt fan buzzing. I think June got up and changed the battery one time. I do love me some electricity. I don’t see how our forefathers read by candlelight. Our candles are not bright enough for me to read by. I am thankful for the LIGHT and the light.

I didn’t realize it got that bad last night but Joe David has two big oaks down in his yard, and one of his neighbors had their mobile home crushed by a giant oak. Someone told me our power was out due to trees falling on the power lines. I knew where they were working but stayed away. The last thing they needed was sight seers. Leave it to the professionals. We live on a tiny north/south grid that has only 25-30 houses. All our neighbors had power, they are on the Iron Man grid. Our grid goes down Targum. Our power goes out 6-8 times a year but it usually get restored in an hour or less. We are the only house on Iron Man on this grid. The C.S. Lewis quote was helpful to me today.
This hasn’t been proofed and I am sure it has lots of mistakes but I am late and here goes…
