The Fourth Generation

Scripture

And after this, Job lived 140 years and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations. Then Job died, an old man and full of days.

An old friend and I were talking last Friday about our old school days. We both attended a three room school house. We had six grades in one class with one teacher. We had very few books and no library, not that I needed one. Then they did away with the small community school and consolidated about six to make one. In the old days, you had to buy your books and I remember one of my science books. It predicted that by the 21 century, space travel would be common. That science book would be a comic book today. The point is: I dreamed about many futuristic things like playing basketball on the moon. You see, on moon, I could dunk with ease. On the moon I would weigh less than 40 pounds and I was much, much lighter then than now. I dreamed of a lot of other things too, but there are some things I never dreamed about.

I never dreamed of having Great-Grand-Children. I don’t know why I didn’t dream of the little darlings, but it never crossed my feeble mind. Now at Sunday dinner, I go from one to the other. Big Mama is not content unless she is holding the little ones, but I am content to see their smile. She had Gunner last Sunday and he was screaming bloody murder and I told her, “He wants his mama…give him to his mama.” She said without stuttering, “He wants his bottle and when his mama gets it fixed he will be OK.” Sure enough, the little rounder got quiet as a church mouse as soon as he saw that bottle coming. Everyone fights over holding Sweet Caroline except me. I just go to the person holding her and try to get the little heifer to smile. I am also thrilled when she does.

There is a difference betwen grand children and great grand children. With grand children you hope to live to see them graduate high school. With great grand children, you hope you can live long enough that they will remember you. You are thankful for your children, thrilled with your grand children and totally titillated with great grand children. With the greats you live for the moment because you know that is all you have.

God blessed Job. He allowed him to see that fourth generation {Great-Grand-Children}. I am no Job by any stretch but God has blessed me to see the fourth generation and it is a wonderful blessing.

Sorry about being late, at got to the office at 5:00 but forgot all about the blog which I usually do first. I went to my computer to do some research and realized I had not posted. Our neighbors, less than two miles away, got a gully-washer yesterday and we got nothing. I sat on the front porch and listened to the thunder, I even felt the breeze from the storm but no rain.

I hope you have a great Tuesday. Thank you for reading the blog.
