“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
~Matthew 7:7, NIV

The Law of Prayer is to ask.
~George W. Truett
How does prayer work? Why would an infinite God who dwells in eternity listen to the prayer of a finite human in time? If God is sovereign, how can our prayer affect His will? How can He listend to millions of us praying at the same time? How in the world can the human prayer of today affect the weather of tomorrow? All these are questions to which I have no answer. Prayer is a mystery. It is something that we are to do in spite of the fact that we do not understand how it works. One does not have to understand the dynamics of electricity to cut on the lights. Do I really know how to pray? Do I understand prayer? No, but I will pray anyway and every day. Don’t let Satan keep your from prayer. He will do everything he can to keep you out or your prayer closet.
Jesus was much better at prayer than you or I because He could see both worlds, the visible and the invisible. Even while standing on earth, He could see what was going on in heaven. The spiritual world and the physical world have the same Creator and it is the Creator who established the laws that govern His creation. He made prayer one of the primary spiritual laws. God has the ability to see us in the future but He also sees us in the present, the now. Every prayer we pray has eternal significance. I don’t understand what I just said but it is the law of prayer, “Ask and you shall receive”. I did not make this law. The Creator has written prayer into His plan. Whether we understand the law or not is insignificant: to put the law into practice is the key.

This blog was probably written twenty years ago: it comes from my summary of the Screwtape Letters. Trust me, it is not plagiarism, if Lewis had written it, you would have read it three times to have any idea what he was talking about. I was looking for a quote when I came across this and thought it would be good to share. Our summary of the Letters is on line, it is to the right at the top of the blog. It is interesting reading.
We praise the LORD for another great day of worship. Kevin Beal was with us yesterday sharing the work of the Gideons. Kevin always does great. A certain person said after the service: “If you get anyone other than Keith Blackwood or Kevin Beal, I am not coming.” Hold you hat, our Gideon Offering was $1,418.00. This is a TOM BENNICH size offering. I don’t know who was the most excited about that offering, me or Steve. Both of us were thrilled: thank You GP.
Tomorrow evening I will be assisting Joe David in Felton Cooper’s COLS. Felton was a Viet Nam vet and a career military man. I think he last few years in the Military was as a National Guard recruiter. Felton was known far and wide for his jokes. He had at least a hundred in his repertoire. The one about the 19 horses I could never remember so there was no danger in my repeating it. Felton was a worker and he helped me more than once build handicap ramps. He went strong until a few years ago when his health began to fail. I am saving one story for the COLS tomorrow: it is a hum-dinger.
I think Jan Fields is coming home Wednesday.
You can’t complain about this weather. I do know who loves it more: myself, Chloe Bug or David Cowart. I don’t think we’ll have anymore heat waves in 2025.
Grace Point is hosting the Pastor’s Conference today. We are feeding the pastors a delicious meal for Pastor Appreciation month. Thank you GP for making this happen.
Have a good day and thanks for reading the blog.
