The Perfections of Christ

Scripture

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

~Hebrews 4:15, NKJV

Humans have an inherent need to revere or admire something greater than themselves.

We all need something or someone to worship. A narcissistic person can worship themselves but generally speaking, we will find something outside of our selves. Of course humans are deeply flawed which means worshipping other humans is fatal. If you put too much confidence in humans, sooner or later you will be deeply disappointed. Even people who appear to have it all together are faking it: they are not genuine. Never trust anyone who doesn’t confess that they have some problems. One of the wonderful things about Christianity is we have man we can worship. Understand, He is more than a man, He is the God/Man, but He is a man. He came to this planet and lived an impeccable life. He did what we could never do: He lived without committing sin. {2 Cor. 5:21, 1 Peter 2:22} The thief on the cross said of Jesus “This man has done nothing wrong.” The Centurion that carried out the crucifixion said, “Certainly, this was a righteous man.” Pilot said, “I find no fault in Him.” Not even the Jews could find a fault in Him {John 8:46}.

Mary the sister of Lazarus worshipped Jesus everytime she saw Him. Some of the men made fun of her but she didn’t care, she fell at His feet and worshipped. Life can be a struggle. It’s like Peter walking on the water; the secret is to stay focused on Jesus. If we lose focus, we go down. Why would we lose focus? I am glad you ask. The elements around us are always competing for our attention. Peter probably began looking at the height of the waves or strength of the wind, or thought about the depth of the sea, but there is another consideration. What if he began thinking about Peter? What if the focus went from Christ to himself? Do you ever think about yourself? Let me ask another question: can you pray and worship while you are thinking about yourself?

When that accusing voice comes up in my prayer time and starts listing my sins; I just nod in consent and say, “Yeah, all that is true of me, but what about Jesus? Can you find a fault in HIM?” That shuts the great accuser of the brethern down. One of Christ perfections will usually remind me of another and I just keep bringing them up and the devil cannot stand it when we praise Jesus. You see, he wants to be Jesus himself. He wants to be worshipped. He wants everything to center around himself. Dwelling on the perfections of Christ will aggravate the devil and bring joy and delight to your soul. You can’t really worship when you are dwelling on your sins and failures.

God is good. We thank Him for the much needed and wonderful rain. Two good things come to mind instantly: we need the rain and it is above freezing. Praise the LORD for two good services, at least they seemed good to me. No movement, no outward indication that anyone listened or made a decision but we preach by faith. The reason I keep going to the pulpit is that I believe God may use it to help someone. I did have a young man respond after the service last night. This makes two Sunday nights in a row that a young man has come to be after the service and shared a word of encouragement and testimony.

Entertaining the thought of visiting today in spite of the rain. I am so far behind on my visitation that I am ashamed. I hope you have a great day and a great week. One more cold night according to James and June. A warm front is coming!

Thanks for reading the blog.
