Scripture

“The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to Him, but His great anger is against all who forsake him.”

~Ezra 8:22, NIV

Yahweh is not static, fixed or predictable.

~Gerald H. Wilson

C.S. Lewis said often {Chronicles of Narnia} in reference to Aslan, “He is not a tamed lion.” God is gracious and compassionate but He is also holy. God has always been incompatible with evil and He is relentlessly good. His essential core is stable {He is immutable} but He is not static, fixed or predictable. Logic and reason declare that He cannot be both, but He is. Do we prostrate ourselves before Him in holy awe or do we stand and clap our hands singing His praises? We should do both. God loves us but He is a Consuming Fire who is to be feared and respected. God is not capricious. He does not act on a whim. His actions are always in sync with His character. God never does anything that is unholy; nor does He do anything unloving. Can any human comprehend this amazing paradox? No, but that is what makes God other than man. He is infinite and we are finite–we are not on the same wave link. We can’t think His thoughts or know His mind.

God is the infinite Creator; not the divine duplicator. God rarely does the same thing twice. Only one Garden of Eden, one flood, one Red Sea, one Moses, one cross or Savior, one Pentecost, and on and on we could go. Man on the other hand is predictable: something phenomenal happens in a church or an area and we write book, a how to book. Henry Blackaby had a phenomenal thing happen in Canada; he tried to bring it to America but it didn’t work. We can’t reproduce what God does and we have written too many books. Do you really believe that God wants all churches to be like the Church of the Highlands or any other phenomenal church movement? Why would He want us all to be the same? There is a precious uniqueness in each local fellowship. I served one in college, two in Seminary and three since and each one of them is unique. I think this is by design, God’s design.

All I am telling you is: you can’t paint God into a corner; you can put HIM in a box. You can’t even understand Him but you had better worship Him. As Jack Taylor said many times: “If you could put God in our little box of brains, He would not be big enough to worship.”

Extra

Another bad storm last night: we got driving rain, wind and hail. It was not daylight when I came to the office so I have not assessed the damage but there are trees down in the area and power was out one road over due to fallen trees. We’ve already had two to fall on corner here at 1120. I think we have the calendar fouled up. I think it must be April instead of May. We have had rain and storms everyday.

We meet tonight at 6:00 Grace Point. We are going to be in Philippians LORD willing.

Hope you have power: have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
