Scripture
“For, I Yahweh, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.”
~Malachi 3:6, LSB

Everything in the universe is in a state of flux except the speed of light.
~Albert Einstein
I call it inspiration; others may call it nonsense, but when thoughts or insights come to mind, I must act on them immediately. I have tried making notes and coming back later but it works much better if I act immediately. As I read and meditated on Psalm 140 today, suddenly it flashed across my mind that there are some things that do not change. I am not about to argue with Einstein and his scientific theories. I do believe what he said about the universe being in flux is correct but I am not talking about physics, property or matter.
First of all, we know that God is immutable: He does not change. I for one am thankful that He does not. He is perfect and has no need of change. I am changing and the world around me is changing but thankfully Jesus Christ is the same today, yesterday and forever. Fifty years ago, I had grand parents but no grand children; thirty years ago I had parents, and just a decade ago, I had friends who are no longer with us. I wake up thinking about these people that I miss dearly. My world is changing. But God is not the only thing that does not change: sin never changes. When I read Psalm 140 today, it was like picking up the morning news paper. King David dealt with the same things Trump is dealing with. Sin and evil do not change. We may change the names to keep from feeling guilty but sin is sin. It is black, ugly, diabolical, deceitful, deadly, destructive and this is how it has always been. Temptation doesn’t change either. Amazingly, the temptation Jesus faced in the wilderness were the same that Adam and Eve faced in the garden. The first temptation is directed toward the body-physical appetite; the second to the soul-desire for pleasure and the third toward the spirit-lust for power. There is one other thing that does not change and that is human nature or the flesh. It is incredible: David had the same problems that I do. His Psalms speak to my need. Human nature does not change. We have always struggled with pride, lust, greed and vanity: we still do!
The altars in our churches are dry. There is no weeping, confession or repentance these days. As I stand in the pulpit and look over a congregation, I know the truth: they struggle with the same things that I struggle with. It doesn’t matter if they are honest about it, I know the truth. They are sinners just like me and they struggle with pride, vanity, lust, greed and envy. The greatest vanity in the world is to pretend to be humble.

Unofficially we have $3,648.87 for Lottie Moon. Some $1,400 from out goal. Your gifts to Bo and family were great. It was more than a 1,000 and maybe less than 2,000. No one tallied the gift cards. I loved the fellowship/offering.
Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
