A Glorious Body

Scripture

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

~Philippians 3:21, NLT

Sooner or later, you are going to want a new body.

~Ya’akov

I lifted weights my last two years in college. I had a 34 inch waist and 17 inch biceps, which is not that big but I was in shape. There was a lady at Salem Springs {College church} that tapered my shirts. Well, I still need tapered shirts but in reverse order, bigger at the bottom than the top. I wear fat boy shirts which I call bell bottom shirts because they fit my figure. I get amused at people who want to show off their bodies. These weight lifters like to wear tight T-shirts so all their muscles will be obvious. That is all well and good but there is coming a day when they too will want a new body. Perhaps you are thinking, “I know people your age that are in shape.” Yes, I have seen some on ads and such but there is more to growing old than shape. There is this thing called aches and pains.

I also know that there are folks who have never had a headache. There are people that have never had acid indigestion. My good friend Ray lived to be 80 and he never had one headache in his life. I have two and three per week. June has never had indigestion. I have to  keep an antiacid in the cabinet all the time. My legs hurt everyday; especially my right one. I have a hot patch on it right now. We don’t have any pain medication at our house other than advil and excedrine. I guess that is a good thing. I can’t remember the last pain free day I’ve had.

I have told you before that I use to pick on June’s mother. I don’t think the woman hated me but she did have good reason. “Granny,” as we called her, was a constant complainer. According to her she had rheumatoid arthritis, the old pasty mouth, the blind staggers, heart trouble and dropsy, and a number of other things.  I would say, “Granny, it is all in your mind. There is nothing wrong with you and you do not have rheumatoid arthritis; if you did, it would show.”  Of course, June always took her side and scolded me for picking at her. Now June says I am reaping what I sowed. When I get up at night I have to furniture walk to the bathroom because I have the blind staggers. I keep a drink on my night stand because I have the old pasty mouth. I don’t have rheumatoid arthritis, but I have arthritis and it is worse in my left hand than anywhere else. I cannot make a fist; I can’t swing a golf club. Long story short, my body is wearing out and fast: I need a new body.

One of our grandsons runs a gym. He tells me all the time, “Granddaddy, you get free workouts.” I tell him thanks but no thanks; I am content to wait on my new body. I really don’t think a workout is going to help this one. It might create double pain: the pain of working out and then being sore from working out. Besides I do a short workout every night. I got it from Junior Hill. I do a roll over and a pull up: I roll over in bed and pull up the covers. Then it takes me three minutes to breath normal.

Extra

I wrote this blog back in September but accoring to my computer, it was never posted: if it is a re-run, I apologize. I started coughing Monday evening and got hoarse Monday night. June wanted me to go to the clinic and realized I didn’t need to get in public if I was contagious so I went and PTL it is laryngitis. They gave me a steriod shot and I had two good days but now I feel worse than ever. I am going back to clinic this morning.

Have a great Friday and thanks for reading the blog.
