The Anxiety Antidote

Scripture

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

~Philippians 4:7, NKJV

Worry does not take away tomorrows trouble but it does rob us of today’s peace.

I like the NLT version of the verse above, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He has done.” We don’t know how many people battle anxiety. I battle it myself. I can create stress, I just can’t relieve it. I will be totally honest, my QT and prayer time is all that keeps my head above the water. Prayer fights anxiety. The Mongoose is a small ugly mammal but it can kill snakes, even the poisonous ones. They are a snakes natural enemy.  Prayer is a spiritual enemy of anxiety: it can kill worry.

The key is to pray about anything and everything that bothers you. If it is big enough to cause anxiety, it is big enough to pray about. I used the NKJV for one reason, the word SUPPLICATION which means presenting your needs to God as petitions. It is an expression of our spiritual poverty. This is only one step in the process: [1] You have to pray about everything that bothers you, [2] You have to tell God exactly what you need and [3] You have to thank Him for what He has already done. I challenge you to do these three things and see what happens. Verse 7 begins, THEN [after you have done the three things] God’s peace will set up a guard around your heart.

There is one other key not mentioned here: you have to believe. Faith is antithetical to fear, doubt, and anxiety. The greater your faith, the less your fear and anxiety. Perfect faith would cast out all fear. Of course, none of us have perfect faith. Every disciple Jesus had struggled with doubt except Judas: this is why Jesus nick named them “Little-Faiths.” Obviously, it can be over come–they all overcame it!

Our granddaughter Chloe loves fall and so do I. The cool mornings have been wonderful and it is cool enough in the evening for me to sit in the swing. I would not mind a little rain.

Yesterday was communion and the LORD was good. We had a good service and a good crowd. Josh sent me a text from Texas, they had communion and made it the service. Josh said his people loved it.

Yesterday was like THANKSGIVING EARLY for me. Diedra and the girls were our guest at Sunday dinner. If I counted right, we had 32 and Big Mama and Sister showed out–we had a feast. I have looked forward to this since last year when Diedra and the girls ate with us. It made my day. Miracle of miracles, I got the girls names right. We were also glad to have Eddie, Sue, Leisa and Eddie’s grands. I also got two Grand Bay pecan pies out of the deal.

I hope you have a great day and week. Thanks for reading the blog.
