Check It Out

Scripture

Only simpletons believe everything they’re told!
The prudent carefully consider their steps.

~Proverbs 14:15, NLT

Quote

There is a great deal of deceit in this world. There is a great deal of misinformation; not all of it is deliberate.

~John Philips

Eugene Peterson paraphrase of Proverbs 14:15 goes like this…The gullible believe anything they’re told; the prudent sift and weigh every word. I guess some of us are gullible by nature, but we learn from our mistakes. We learn to do our own research, to fact check and to substantiate. I was taught things in school that were incorrect. I learned the truth long after I graduated High School. America is not a democracy and has never been: we are a Republic and there is a vast difference. The folks writing the text books want a democracy: they despise the Republic because it is a rule by law, the constitution. This is merely one example of the gross misinformation that is out there. There is so much propaganda in the nightly news that I stopped watching thirty years ago.

My objective today is to confess my own sins and shortcomings. What Philips said got me to thinking…not all misinformation is intentional. Can a preacher misinform? Sure, we are all capable of giving bad information. It is easy to get things confused. A good example is the Jacobins and the Jacobites. They are two different groups. Jacobites promoted the monarchy and the Jacobins were the exact opposite, they hated kings and inspired the French Revolution. I think I might have said in an earlier blog that the Jacobins {Robespierre} was a Marxist. There is a problem, Marx was born twenty-four years after the French Revolution. I read this week that Marx may have been influenced by Robespierre. In other words, I had it backwards and it was unintentional.

My intentions were good. I was trying to inform but I misinformed. Always check things out. No teacher, preacher, educator has perfect knowledge. Don’t take our word as fact, check it out. We have too many dupes in America as it is; we don’t need more. Surely you know that you will not get the truth from a news paper or the TV. The media is coolade for the dupes. Do not be gullible; do not trust them.

Extra

Feeling better but still have the cough and a lot of congestion. I could have made it yesterday but beloved would have been unhappy with me. She thinks I need to rest, so I had a true, I rested. I have a million things to do but I also want to get well so I am staying in again today. All the reports I got of the service yesterday were good. I plan to be back Wednesday night LORD willing. Our strength and energy are gifts from God. He can take them just as easily as our breath.

I tell what would make me real happy, a good rain. It is dry! November is not normally dry.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
