In The Presence Of The King

Scripture

And the king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here.” So he went before the king and bowed with his face to the ground.

~1 Kings 1:23, NIV

Quote

“Thou art coming to a King; Large petitions with thee bring; For His grace and power are such, None can ever ask too much.”

~John Newton

We do not have as many monarchies as we did 200 years ago but according to wikipedia there are still 43 sovereign monarchies on planet earth. Up until the enlightenment, most of Europe was governed by kings and queens. England still makes a big to do about the Royal family who has retained the crown but lost the power. What if you or I lived in a monarchy and we got a summons to see the king? It would depend on a lot of things, would it not. Is the king a good king? Have I been loyal to his majesty or have I been bad mouthing him? If I have been working in rebellion against the king, I might feel terror. If I have been loyal to him, I might feel honored, but one thing is certain, I will feel inferior. He is a king and I am a subject. There is a huge difference between the two.

In Luke 19 Jesus tells the story of a nobleman who was given a kingdom but the citizens of that domain hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want him to be our king.’ {Luke 19:14} Of course, Jesus was referring to Himself and to the Jews who hated Him and did not want to submit to His Lordship.

If we were given audience to a king I think we would approach humbly with much respect like Nathan the prophet who came into King David’s presence and bowed. Have you ever been in the presence of greatness? Most of us have not. I did attend a conference in Atlanta Georgia some 25 or 30 years ago. I don’t even know how I got invited; I was as out of place as a fox in a hen house. All the big publishers and bible translators were there: Tyndale, Wycliffe, Campus Crusade, etc. There were five different organizations represented at my table alone. I was sitting at a round table with six or seven linguist or Bible translators. All bible scholars and translators have a couple of things in common: Jesus and a brilliant mind.  I can pretty much predict that if you made 19 on the ACT, you are not going to be a Bible translator. Some of them could speak seven different languages. They were not old men. I think all were younger than myself. Immediately a little voice whispered to me, “You have nothing that will add to the conversation, just sit and listen.” I know some of you don’t believe me but I sat and listened. Most of the conversation was over my head.

President Trump is not a king although the left portrays him as such, but if I got a summons to the White House I would be thrilled, honored and anxious. I would not wear a tie unless that made it manditory but I would wear the best I have. I would have to thank him for what he has done for our beloved country and for the working class that is shrinking by the day. Other than that I would listen to what he has to say. Trump has royal blood. He was created to govern. I was created to be governed.

One day, maybe soon, I will meet the KING of kings. I promise you I will bow like Nathan with my face to the ground. I can only imagine from this point on. I will not stand in His presence, to my knees I will fall, but will I shout hallelujah or be able to speak at all…I can only imagine.

Another song came to mind: IN THE PRESENCE OF JEHOVAH…

In the presence of Jehovah,
God Almighty, Prince of Peace,
Troubles vanish, hearts are mended,
In the presence of the King.
