Prayer

Scripture

The Lord hears His people when they call to Him for help.
He rescues them from all their troubles.

~Psalm 34:17, NLT

All God’s people are praying people.

~Matthew Henry

I love Psalm 34; it has been a huge source of comfort over the years. It is based on David experience when he took refuge in Gath, in the land of the Philistines, Israel’s perpetual enemy. David was in panic mode and was not thinking clearly. After he arrived in Gath, he realized he was in danger and that he would not be given safe quarter. By the time he realized his mistake, he was in a fix and so he began praying. I doubt seriously that he prayed aloud, but in his heart he was praying. He says in verse 4, I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” Temper Longman says, “The fear of the LORD drives out all other fears.” In verse 6 David said, In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.” David says in verse 15, The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; His ears are open to their cries for help.” Generally speaking, our prayers are a cry for help.

The bottom line is: if you are a child of God, you will pray. Those who do not speak to the LORD have no relationship with Him. To know Him is to love Him and to love Him is intimate fellowship. Oh what peace we often forfeit; oh what needless pain we bear: all because we do not carry everything to Him in prayer.

Extra

We have gotten .55 of rain since midnight and we had .26 last night when I went to bed at 9:00. I am guessing that we are going to get an inch. It is a very soft and gentle rain with a big drop every now and then; just the kind we need. No run off. Our rye grass will love it.

I was going from Cullman to Charles shop to find enough wood to build us a table top mail box for church when it dawned on me that I could probably order one and get it in before Sunday: it would be a huge time saver for me. I call June and she ordered it.

This is great for sharing Christmas cards within the church family. You can then give your stamp money to Lottie Moon. Our Lottie Moon total to date is $4,987.00. We are just $113.00 away from our goal but we will keep taking a LMCO through December.

The 49er Christmas Party is Friday at 11:30. You don’t want to miss it.

I got my grapple in just before dark. It’s big. I will have to have some weight on the back to use it. I hope to get my hoses made today and be able to move and burn brush by Thursday.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
