Consider The Ravens

Scripture

Consider the ravens: They don’t sow or reap; they don’t have a storeroom or a barn; yet God feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than the birds?

~ Luke 12:24 (CSB)

If you are not in awe of Mother Nature, there is something wrong with your relationship with Father God.

Jesus taught more on the subject of STEWARDSHIP than any other subject. Luke twelve’s theme is faithful service to a faithful Master. We are to live by faith trusting Christ for every need. We are not to worry or be anxious about the necessities of life like food, water, shelter, clothing, etc. Jesus uses two illustrations from the natural world to prove that God takes care of His own. First Jesus uses the sparrow for an example: Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight.  Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. — Luke 12:6-7 (CSB) Then He uses the Raven for an example of the Father benevolent care: Consider the ravens: They don’t sow or reap; they don’t have a storeroom or a barn; yet God feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than the birds? — Luke 12:24 (CSB) What do Sparrows and Ravens have in common? They are both dirty birds. Sparrows love to build their nest on your porches, out buildings; any place where they find a ledge or crevice. They are dirty messy birds who eat almost anything that is small like seeds or insects. They are plentiful and known around the world. In N.T. times they were worth less than a penny and their value has decreased. Most people hate sparrows. They are not attractive birds. Tracey’s mom Blonde had a hole drilled in her back window just big enough for a BB Gun; this was so she could shoot sparrows. They are as dirty as ducks: trust me, you don’t want them hanging out at your place. Ravens are scavengers who eat carrion and garbage and also prey on rodents, and on the eggs and nestlings of other birds. They are filthy birds with filthy habits. They are blacker than the ace of spades and not much to look at. So what we have is two dirty, unattractive, worthless and unpopular birds and yet: GOD created them and He cares for them.

The emphasis here is not on the birds but on the benevolent goodness of God and His care for His creation and His passionate love for humanity. I confess that I am a dirty bird: unattractive, worthless and unappreciated by mankind but I’m not down and out because the infinite God who created me values me. I may not be important to this world but I am important to Him. Don’t misunderstand what I am saying, there are those who appreciate me but I am referring to my relationship to the world. The good news is: I don’t want the same world that crucified Jesus to appreciate me. I want them to feel the same way about me as they do Jesus. I don’t need the worlds approval, accolades or applause–Knowing that Jesus loves me unconditionally is all I need. Hey, if His eye is on the sparrow, I know He watches me.

  • I googled to research sparrows and I simply typed in… Are sparrows dirty birds? You are not going to believe what popped up…Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds. It is a rock group I guess. They are on YouTube but they aren’t that good in my opinion. I learn something everyday. I had no idea such a group existed.
  • We live in the age of the disposable. I will be replacing my little A/C unit for the third time in two years. They don’t make anything to last these days but I am getting tired of taking the old out and putting the new in. Got to Walmart with my warranty and they don’t back it. Now we have to do business with Jake and State Farm.
  • Madison Widner had a huge turn around: all the blood clots are gone. She may  go home Sunday or Monday. I did not know until yesterday. Don Murphy and Coach Slater are step brothers. I went to DGH to see Mrs. Annie Murphy and there sat coach Slater. I said, “What are you doing here?” He said, “This is my mama!” I said, “Why hadn’t you told me that Don was your step brother?” He said, “I don’t tell anybody that Don is my step brother.” He was kidding. What will I find out tomorrow?
  • It’s hard to get the facts on Nike but they are supporters of BLM which is the most racist organization on the planet. To be frankly honest, I think we have a mess on our hands. Blacks are protesting Nike giving discounts to the Military and if I understand correctly, they are protesting Michael Jordan for not speaking out on “social injustice.” Jordan, a beacon of wisdom in a sea of insanity supports both law enforcement and the NAACP. He chooses not to involve himself in politics and some are blaming him for the plight of the black man. They are always blaming someone else: it is never their own fault. These ignorant people don’t know what social injustice is; it is just a phrase they have heard from the democrats for the last 50 years. These spoiled athletes wouldn’t know social injustice if it bit them on the neck. Racism, social injustice and police brutality, same old song and dance. Kaepernick has set racial justice back 50 years. But it cost him everything! Yeah, right. Nike will not release the numbers but Kaepernick’s worth is 22 million. Sounds like he sacrificed it all for the cause. Give me a break.
