Helper Of The Helpless

Scripture

The helpless put their trust in You.

~Psalm 10:14, NLT

Quote

Sometimes we are too weak to hold on so we have to let go: that is when we discover that He is holding us completely–body, soul and spirit.

~Ya’akov

My Thoughts

Some scholars think Psalm nine and ten go together. Both Psalms employ simular words and speak of the poor and needy {9:18}. They also mention the oppressed, the victimized, the fatherless/orphans, the innocent, the weak and the helpless. Basically Psalm 10 is the Psalmist affirmation, that the wicked will be judged for thier exploitation of the poor and helpless. Unlike the NIV commentary, I am not getting into the social justice issue because there is no such thing as social justice; there is only one justice and it belongs to Yahweh. He is the chief Justice and the only One qualified to define what is just and what is unjust. The strong have always taken advantage of the weak. Because humans are depraved, vain and greedy, those who have power tend to exploit those who cannot defend themselves.

For example: taxation.  How can I, as a common citizen with very shallow pockets, fight the federal government when they decide to raise my taxes. They have been using the money they take from me and spending it on all sorts of things that I abhor. What can I do? Nothing! I can not fight the federal government.

Where do we go, when we feel helpless? I go to the LORD. People who realize their helpless condition go to the LORD, they trust Jesus. Psalm 9:9, The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.  In 10:12,  “He cries, Arise, LORD, lift up your hand O God. Do not forget the helpless.” I don’t mind telling you; I go to the LORD–He is my Refuge. Do you feel helpless today? The LORD has not forgotten you. He answered the Psalmist prayer,  He arose and He did something: He sent His only begotten Son into the sin sick world to live a perfect life in our stead and died an atoning death so that you and I could be forgiven and have the hope of heaven.

One of the Wesley’s wrote a hymn and I can remember only one line…

For me He prayed in the garden, not My will be done but Thine.                 He shed no tears for His own grief but sweat drops of blood for mine.

He hasn’t forgotten us and He is going to help us out of the dreadful mess that our parents got us into when they were disobedient in the garden.

This is one of the blogs where the media refuses to upload so it looks a little different. Hopefully we will have a day of sunshine. Do you ever remember me making such a statement. Our garden is a mud hole. I think with some sunshine most of it will survive. Plants, like humans can drown. I think our okra is beyond reviving. We do have cabbage, onions, greens and squash will be coming soon.

I have taken off this week but I may visit the retirement homes today: have not decided yet. My projects are coming along nicely. I should finish one shed today and start my tractor shed.

Grace Point: don’t forget the SHRIMP BOIL tonight at 6:00. I want everyone to come, even Steve Edmonson.
