Scripture
Quote
I am reading the Psalms in the New Revised Standard Version where this Psalm begins like this…God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment. Elohim [plural for god] is used twice in this Psalm in reference to men. This is not conjecture on my part: Jesus quoted this Psalm in John 1o:34-36 and He said Elohim here referred to men. The Hebrews used Elohim in reference to men of exalted position such as kings, rulers and judges. The NASB simply went with the context because there is no doubt that Psalm 82 is an indictment on Judges, those magistrates who uphold the law. The office of judge is a very high office and it carries a tremendous amount of responsibility. Those who assume this office should understand that they are appointed by God and will give an account to Him. On a day in the future, God the Supreme Judge will judge the judges. God is the speaker in this Psalm until you get to the last verse which is a prayer from the Psalmist. God’s basic indictment against the judges of Israel is: “How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked?” The the LORD gives them these instructions found in verses 3-4:
- Give justice to the poor and the orphans.
- Uphold the rights of the oppressed and destitute.
- Rescue the poor and helpless: deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
God’s final summation is found in verses 5-7:
- The Judges have become oppressors.
- They are walking in ignorance, wandering in the dark.
- The social structure of society is being shaken because they are not doing their job.
- They glory in their position but do not fulfill their responsibilities.
- They are not gods, they are mortal men and they will die and then give an account to God.
Verse 8 is a prayer, “Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all nations belong to You.” Lawson says this is a petition for the second coming of Christ who will set the record straight. He will restore justice and He will judge the oppressor.
I want to make at least one observation: things have not changed since Asap’s relative wrote this Psalm. I could not help but think of our so-called SUPREME COURT. Verse 4 really stood out, “Rescue the poor and helpless.” Do you know of any member of our society who is more helpless than an unborn baby? It is appalling to me, that highly educated people like those who sit on the supreme court, could make such a horrendous decision regarding the right to life for the unborn. There are numerous places in the O.T. where the unborn are recognized as persons. What were these idiots thinking? Did they not understand that they would someday stand before the real JUDGE? Would you trade places with Harry Blackmun, the infamous framer of Roe V. Wade? He has more blood on his hands than Hitler. Speaking of Judges wandering in the dark, not knowing what they are doing: read the following quote–
“I thought, at the time of Roe V. Wade was decided, there was a concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have to many of.”
Two things that are appalling to me about this quote: the grammar is atrocious. You never end a sentence with a preposition. You might expect me to do something like this but a graduate of Columbia School of Law, give me a break. The quote above sounds like Margaret Sanger who was a proponent of eugenics [the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics] but it comes from none other than Ruthless Bader Ginsburg who, thanks to slick Willy, now sits on the supreme court. No court can be supreme that includes the likes of Ginsburg. She is a Christ hating Jew who doesn’t have a clue. She is wandering in the dark. Does the term ‘eugenics’ sound familiar: Adolf Hitler believed in and practiced eugenics. Hank Williams Jr. got fired for telling the truth; there are a lot of similarities between the democratic party and Hitler. Both used propaganda to further their godless cause and both practiced eugenics.
- Mrs. Jewel Roberts got to come home yesterday evening. She did suffer a light stroke but she seems to be fully recovered. She told Sheila yesterday, “If they don’t let me go, I am going to get up and walk out.”
- I understand that the Barns family from Neel has a son missing at sea from the helicopter crash. There were five men on the crew. Let’s join together and pray for their welfare. Abba Father, we left up the families of these men who are in agony as the wait and hope for good news. We do pray that these men will be found and rescued. We left up all the broken hearted and distressed in connection to this mysterious accident. We ask for a miracle and we vow to give You the glory. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
- I do love this weather but I am tired of cutting grass: I don’t want to wish my life away but I am praying for an early frost. Hey, I am not complaining. I don’t ever remember an August like this, nor a summer. We have a shot at getting to fall without a single heat wave. God is good. Let me just say, He has really been good to June and I. We are thankful and we give Him praise.
- SUNDAY SCHEDULE: Deacons @ 8:15, LCBS @ 9:15 and Worship Celebrations @ 10:15 and 6:15. AWANA‘s @ 5:30. Team Guatemala will share in the evening service. LORD willing, I will be there with biscuits and donuts at the same time {8:00} and be there for LCBS; then June and I will be going to Lebanon Baptist Church where I preached my second sermon back in 1968. Speaking of donuts and biscuits: June reported to me last Sunday that there wasn’t a crumb left by the time worship began.
More Hollywood Heroes From Yester-year
Some are suprising; Some are not
{Notes: Audie Murphy is the most decorated Hollywood vet but he has some competition from Charles Durning who landed on the beach at Normany on D-Day, was wound several times and awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. He was one of the few survivors of his unit. Clifton Brown and Neville Brand were also awarded Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts. Dale Robinson was a tank commander under Patton and Mickey Rooney also served with Patton. Efram Zimbalist, Jr. and James Arness were severely wounded in battle. Frank Sutton took part in 14 assault landings. Don Knotts was also a combat veteran. Times have really changed: have they not. Hollywood and the Democrats have something in common: they have both gone down the tube.
