The Apocalypse

Scripture

At present we see things as if in a mirror, and are puzzled; but then we shall see them face to face. For at present, the knowledge I gain is imperfect; but then I shall know HIM fully, even as I am fully known.

~1 Corinthians 13:12, Weymouth

Quote

Only if we come as we are can we know HIM as He is.

I Corinthians 13 is a rich chapter. I suppose the overriding theme of chapter 13 is motive. It doesn’t matter what we do or how good we do it if our motives are selfish. There is no reward for our service unless our motive is love. Weymouth personifies LOVE as a beautiful lady. He says; she is patient and kind. She knows neither envy or jealously. She is not forward or self assertive; she is not boastful or conceited. She never misbehaves and never seeks glory for herself; she does not blaze out in passionate anger and she doesn’t brood or pout. She finds pleasure is doing what is right and she always stands for the truth. She knows how to be silent and she is full of trust, hope and patience. To put it in a nutshell: she never fails. My, my, my Miss Agape is a beautiful lady!

The word apocalypse comes from two greek words and it basically means an unveiling or a revelation. These modern moms have what they call a “reveal” party. They know what their baby is {male or female} but they do not tell until you come to their party. In old Hebrew tradition, the bride wore a veil until the wedding day. Before they are pronounced man and wife, the bride removes the veil and the groom can see her clearly. In our relationship with Christ it is the opposite: He sees us clearly now. He knows us inside out. This is what impressed Nathaniel, Jesus knew him completely the moment they met. There is nothing about you that Jesus does not know. He knows your fears, doubts, frustrations, burdens, thoughts and sins. It is impossible to keep things from Him. The sooner you realize this truth, the better off you will be. The problem is not His knowledge of us but our knowledge of HIM. When He returns, there is going to be an apocalypse, and unveiling and we are going to see HIM as He has been seeing us. Right now our knowledge of Him is imperfect, incomplete and clouded with mystery but when He returns, the imperfect is going to vanish light darkness before light.

The world is confused about intimacy. The poor fools think intimacy is a synonym for sex. In the context of marriage, sex can be the apex of intimacy but intimacy is not getting naked physically, it is removing the garments that cover your soul and heart. It is allowing someone to know you. You will only do this when you trust the other person whether it be a spouse or a friend. Perhaps you are thinking: I don’t think my spouse can handle my secrets. You may be right in which case you take them all to Jesus. If you don’t trust HIM, you have a deep insecurity that only He can heal. I am encouraging you to trust HIM! He will enable you to trust others.
