The Eyes Of The LORD

Scripture

The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good.

~Proverbs 15:3, NASB

Hypocrisy is common among men but impossible before God.

When the bible attributes human characteristics to God, it is called anthropomorphic language. God does not have eyes like we humans but He does see; matter of fact He is all-seeing. He sees into the recesses of outer space. He sees in the black depths of the oceans. He sees the middle of the atom and the middle of the earth. There is nothing hidden from His sight. Hebrews 4:13 states this very truth: And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4, Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God. Men see our actions but God sees are attitude. People see our deeds but God sees our motive. Humans make poor judges because we have an imperfect perspective. God sees things from a much higher perspective: He sees every angle.

In sports, we have gone to instant reply to help the officials. Sometimes a call is over turned because there is video evidence that indicates the officials missed the call but there are times when the video is insufficient because the camera did not have the right angle. God doesn’t have this problem: He sees every angle. Jesus said in Luke 18:17, “For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” This saying of our LORD is in all three synoptic gospels [Matthew 10:26, Mark 4:22]. Paul said in Romans 2… God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. C.S. Lewis calls this the baptism of shame. Before I enter heaven, all my wicked thoughts and deceitful deeds will be revealed to everyone. This means, I will enter heaven very humbly. My only consolation is: everyone’s deeds and thoughts will be revealed and the only person to escape this utter humiliation will be Christ. This will insure that in heaven, He, that is Jesus, gets all the glory. Perhaps Lewis is wrong! Personally, I don’t think so. There are at least 8 scripture references that teach this truth but one thing is sure: God sees everything. There is no darkness to God. For Him, everything is in the light.

The bottom line is this: I have to be about the business of pointing men and women to Jesus. I don’t need to point to myself because I am messed up. It would be foolish on my part to point to myself. I am not proud of my depravity be it keeps me aware of my calling which is to point others to Him

Lord, bend that proud and stiffnecked “I,”

Help me to bow the neck and die,

Beholding Him on Calvary,

Who bowed His Head for me.

I didn’t see any change in Jim. He is still very tired and lifeless. They had not done the biopsy when I was there about 9:30 am. They may have done it later on. He is still in need of prayer so please remember Jim. Right now, the most important thing we can do for him is pray. LORD willing, I will be preaching tomorrow night at church and on Sunday, I will be going to Lebanon. I am excited.
