Venting The Heart

Scripture

O my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Himfor God is our refuge.

~Psalm 62:8, NLT

Quote

“Prayer is natural to me, as the breath by which the inward burning of my heart had vent.”

~Jonathan Edwards

I am not about to say that I am a man of prayer and deep devotion but I will say this, I love my time alone with Jesus and I enjoy talking to Him. As Francois Fenelon said, “I tell Him all that is on my heart.” I have no secrets with Him. Whereas I am conscious of some sin, He is conscious of all my sin. The LORD sees my sin before I do. A lot of conviction goes on while we are talking. We are fools not to pray. First of all, no one wants to hear about all our problems except Jesus–He will listen. J.B. Philips translates 1 Peter 5:7, You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon him, for you are his personal concern. Secondly, we have the assurance that He really cares about us because He gave His life for us. But the clincher is that we can be totally transparent with Jesus. There is no one else in the world we can be totally transparent with other than Jesus. First of all, He knows our sin and shame. It is not like we are telling Him something that He doesn’t already know. When I get alone with Jesus, I vent. In the old days I didn’t vent because I figured Jesus had enough problems without me dumping mine on Him but then I realized, He can handle all my problems and He considered it a sin when we don’t trust Him with the things that are bothering me, so I tell Him everything.

There are different kinds of heart burn and I think I know the kind Edwards is referring to; sometimes our hearts burn within us like it did with the disciples on the road to Emmaus and just a little talk with Jesus makes it right. I may have doubts and fears, my eyes be filled with tears, but Jesus is the One I go to day or night. I’ll be honest with you: I desperately need my little talk with Jesus.

I enjoyed the sunshine yesterday. When the sun is out and there is no wind, 50 degrees is nice. I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog. Today is a sad day for many like Chloe Bug, she has to go back to school.
