Don’t wear your halo too tight: it will give others a headache.

You may be offended by the title and personally, I would not blame you. Today’s subject is one I had just as soon avoid but in my situation; avoiding it is unavoidable. I have been told recently that everyone is addicted to something. I did not give my consent to what was said, but after ending the conversation on a rather disappointing note, I began to think about what was said, and they have a viable point. We are all addicts. We are all addicted to sin. You may be protesting loudly right about now, but you don’t have a leg to stand on: you are a sinner and you cannot stop sinning.
If I were you I would not invest in John Goldengay’s books. I am quite sure he is woke, but DBC bought me his commentaries on Psalms {at my request} and I must be a good steward of their money. His commentary on Psalm 38 was good which is unusual. I did not know it, but he said this the favorite Psalm of Alcoholics Anonymous is Psalm 38. In Goldengay’s commentary, he shares four things that the alcoholics have to do to overcome their addiction:
- They must take full responsibility for the mess they are in and stop blaming others
- They must understand and confess that their addiction has hurt others like their children, siblings and parents
- They must repent and accept responsibility for their actions
- They must realize that they cannot overcome the addiction without God’s help
It’s hard for me to agree with anyone who has a female pastor and is woke, but I think he is right. He also mentioned Amy Winehouse, a recording artist who was an addict and died at age 27. One of her hits is called REHAB…They tried to make me go to rehab but I said, no, no, no…He’s {daddy} tried to make me go to rehab but I will not go, go, go! Don’t check out the video, it is not fit to watch. My question was: why does an 80 year old bible scholar know about Amy Winehouse. It is hard to believe that an old man would be interested is such stuff. I had never heard of her. Just another sad story about the danger of addiction and the ultimate destination for an addict.

Warmer weather tomorrow according to Big and James; that’s Big Mama and James Spann. I think I have adjusted to the cold but a little warmer weather will not upset me. So long as it is not a heat wave. January has gone by in a hurry. When you get my age, all months go by in a hurry.
49’ers luncheon today at 11:30. I guess you could call it potluck, but I know we will have beans {pintos and northerns}, slaw, stewed potatoes, hushpuppies, brisket, fried chicken and fried cabbage. Whatever shows up will be good. If you are off, come and join us. We always have more than enough. We’ve already planned the February menu: we are having breakfast foods. This was Buddy’s idea and he and Charles are going to help me cook. We might give you ladies a day off from cooking.
I hope you have a great Friday. Remember to pray for the sick. I haven’t gotten any bad reports this week but keep praying. Thanks for reading the blog and have a great weekend. See you back here Monday, LORD willing.
