Our Debt

Scripture

What can I offer the LORD for all he has done for me?

~Psalms 116:12, NLT

Quote

As Christian… We do not think God will love us because we are good but that God will make us good because He loves us.

~C.S. Lewis

In Psalm 116 David is overwhelmed by God’s infinite goodness to him personally. As he ponders the goodness of God, he wonders what he could do in response. He poses a very interesting question, “What can I offer the LORD for all He has done for me?” It is a great question: what could you and I offer the LORD is response to all He has done for us?

David make a list of four things he will do to express his gratitude:

  1. I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the LORD ’s name for saving me. [v.13]
  2. I will keep my promises to the LORD in the presence of all his people.[v.14]
  3. I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving. [v.17]
  4. I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people—[v.18]

We owe a debt we cannot pay in this life or the life to come. We are eternally indebted to God. I can identify with David’s sentiments in Psalm 116, God has been good to me. I am amazed at His grace. We have an awesome responsibility and privilege coming up today and tomorrow. We will, by the grace of God, be leading two CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE SERVICES for two Godly Christian women. As I meditate on these ladies and their lives, I also think about the honor and privilege of speaking at their COLS, and I am humbled. Only one thing allows me to be in this position, the amazing grace of God and His infinite goodness.

Joe and Bradley meet with Peck at 10:00 am this morning. Joe has asked that food be carried to Hugh and Mavis house where Stephanie lives. Debbie is sick. We will be feeding the family after the service also. He also ask that we make donations instead of flowers. Memorial gifts will go to HOUSES in GUATEMALA or the Gideon’s. I think they are shooting for 2:00 pm at DBC. Blondie’s service is today: visitation from 12:00-2:00 and service at 2:00 @ the Shady Grove Community Church. I covet your prayers. Remember to pray for your pastor, everyday.
