Another Jesus

Scripture

For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus different from the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the one you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it well enough!

~2 Corinthians 11:14, NET

What kind of world would it be if everyone believed in Christ?

~Billy Graham

Before we get to Dr. Graham’s question, I want to talk about the verse above. Paul talks about “another Jesus” different from the one we preached. The world has attempted to emasculate Jesus. They make Him into a milk toast sissy. The Jesus they believe on is a timid, non confrontational wimp. One major problem: this is not the Jesus Paul preached. It is not the Jesus of the Bible. He was a man’s man. No human being has ever exhibited the courage that Jesus displayed. He did things that none of us can do. He is the strong Son of God, the Father’s Right Hand and He has the power to forgive sin or to judge sin. No one else has that power. Jesus choose to die: no other man has ever made that choice. We may be able to choose when we die but our dying is not a question; sooner or later, we are going to die whether we choose to or not.

So there are many versions of Jesus, many false Christ. When Keith and I were in Venezuela back around the turn of the century we saw a wooden Jesus. He was everywhere. Those catholic we saw in South America worship a wooden Jesus on a crucifix, You see them everywhere. They are not ashamed of their wooden Jesus but it is not the same Jesus we know. It broke my heart, they believe strongly in Jesus but it is the wrong Jesus.

Now for the question: what would the world be like if everyone believed in the real Jesus? We wouldn’t need any prisons. Probably wouldn’t need the police. We certainly would not need the military or weapons of war. Everyone would love everyone else: we would have universal brotherhood. There would be no poverty. There would be no oppression–no muslims or communist murdering people or terrorizing them. Everyday would be Christmas. It would be a little heaven on earth.
