Digging For Treasures

Scripture

He tunnels through the rock. His eyes see all of its treasures. He searches the places where the rivers begin. He brings hidden things out into the light.
~Job 28:10-11, NIRV

Quote

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is given to illuminate His Word, to open the scriptures and place the spiritual man in direct communication with the mind of God.

A Jack 4The Our Daily Bread devotion yesterday stirred my mind. He spoke of a discovery made by an Archaeologist in Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico. Archaeologist spend their lives digging for artifacts and treasures and they get excited when they find one. We Believers have something for better than mining for gold, silver, precious gems or artifacts. Job tells us in chapter 28 how the ancients mined for gold, silver and precious gems. They dug shafts straight down and then lowered themselves on ropes. They even tunneled through solid rock. The major problem 6,000 years ago was light. I am sure they used torches of some kind but today we have lights that are attached to the miner’s helmets.
Chapter 28 is filled with insights for those of us who love to dig deep into the word of God.
  1. They search in deep places
  2. They battle the darkness
  3. They do it away from people
  4. They have strong hands and hearts
  5. They tunnel through solid rock
  6. They search in places where no one has been
  7. They bring hidden things to light

I can promise you, no man has exhausted the treasures to be found in God’s word. There are millions of gems hidden below the surface that no one has discovered. You don’t have to fly to an Archaeological sight; you don’t need a pick or shovel. You only need a bible, a quiet place, a strong heart, good glasses if you are a senior and of course you must have good lighting. I have three miner’s light that I can wear like a cap. I use them for reading, working, etc. The Blessed Holy Spirit is our Miner’s Light. Without HIM we are in dark darkness. In other words, there is no hope of discovering the deep truths in scripture a part from HIM. Some intelligent people were listening to me yesterday and they did not get a word I said, or even worse, a word that God said. I’m not sure half of the congregation grasp the truth in the first three words…Legalism hates GRACE!

extra_extra

  • God is good, what a beautiful day we had yesterday….gentle rain with no wind, a steady drizzle all day long. If I hadn’t been on steroids, it would have been a great day for a nap.
  • PTL for three more Baptisms: Zack Baker, Sadie Hood and Jason Haynes.
  • ADULT CHOIR hits it out of the park, gram slam! There costumes were worth a few thousand dollars. I haven’t seen anything like it since the days of OPERA LAND and the I hear America Singing Theater. GREAT JOB super Dave! Catfish is going to put the entire thing on YOU TUBE.
  • More good news: we had a ton of visitors, attendance was up and the offerings were great. Thank You Jesus. Shohn’s son Joseph Miller had to be rushed to ER yesterday morning. It was kidney stones.
  • The Men’s LCBS class has asked me to consider promoting a read the bible through in a year program. I looked to see what the AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY has to offer. We had almost 100 do it a few years ago, it might be a good time to do another. I am reading the NIrV and I love it. It is a easy to read version. They made it with children and new readers in mind but I love it. We can get entire bibles for $5 and New Testaments for $2.50. If you have any interest, let me know.
