God Loves Obedience

Scripture

Then Jeremiah turned to the Recabites and said, “This is what the LORD… the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed your ancestor Jehonadab in every respect, following all his instructions. Therefore… the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Recab will always have descendants who serve Me.’”

Quote

One act of obedience is better than a hundred sermons.

The Recabites are interesting people. They are decendants of the Kenites with the most famous being Jethro, Moses father-in-law. It is believed that Moses brother-in-law and others of the Kenite clan went with the Israelites into the promise land where they became known as Recabites. They were extremely loyal to their patriarchs Racab and Jehonadab. They maintained family traditions without wavering to the right or left. They were admired for their adherence to the instruction of their fore fathers. They were taught from birth not to drink wine, nor to build houses or own property. They were nomadic like the Arab Bedouins. The Recabites came to Jerusalem because of the Babylonia invasion. Their descendants are still living in and around the Dead Sea area. Some say that Jethro believed in Yahweh before Moses knew Him as such.

Just as an earthy father is thrilled when a child obeys, so is our heavenly Father when we obey His commands. An obedient child is a blessing; a disobedient child is a curse. God not only loves obedience; He blesses obedience. As the old hymn says, “Trust and Obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”

  • God is good and certainly deserving of our PRAISE. I want to thank him for a wonderful day and the opportunity to preach twice. We had a great crowd at DBC last night: I was encouraged. It was the first time I have preached in the new sanctuary.
  • We have several procedures and surgeries this week. June and Charlene have procedures today, Jim Tanner has surgery Tuesday and Jennifer Breedlove on Wednesday. Jim is having shoulder surgery and Jennifer is having a knee replaced.
  • LORD willing, June and I will be out of town for a couple of days. It was bad planning on our part but we have made commitments we can’t afford to break.
