Fascination With The Future

Scripture

Or let them tell us what the future holds, so we can know what’s going to happen.

~Isaiah 41:22, NLT

We don’t know what the future holds but we know who holds the future.

Today scripture out of Isaiah is his comments about idols and their impotence. He is chiding the Israelites who were prone to put their trust in idols instead of Yahweh, the only true God. Isaiah was right, idols cannot predict the future and neither can we. I do admit that there was a gift of prophecy evident in the lives of both Isaiah and Jeremiah and in Jeremiah’s case, details were given and that is very rare. Jeremiah told the Israelites going into Babylon to adapt and continue their lives and then he promised; the captivity will last only 70 years. He hit the nail right on the head; some say it was 70 years to the day. I personally do not believe we have any present day Isaiah’s or Jeremiah’s but we do have a lot of charlatans who play on the curiosity of human nature. There is something about we humans and our curiosity about the future. There is no question that books on prophecy sell like hot cakes but most of them get out of date quickly. The truth is, no one knows the future. It is like the man who visited the physic, she began by asking the man his name. He said, “You are a physic, you tell me.” No one knows what is going to happen. There are thousands who make a living predicting future events but in truth, their predictions are calculated guesses. The weather folks are good examples. They get it wrong much of the time and still get paid. When I hear one of these TV preachers tell us exactly how the last days are going to unfold, I chuckle. They are charlatans preying on human curosity.

What brought on all this concern about the future? Here lately, perhaps since covid began, I struggle to get through a week with out bad or sometimes shocking news. It leaves me thinking, “LORD, what is going to happen next?” I am sure that part of this may be my age but it seems to me that we live in times of great uncertainty and it is a bit disconcerting. Perhaps it has always been this way but with me it seems to have begun with covid and the crooked election. Since then, it has been one bit of shocking news after the other. I don’t think one bit of good news has come out of DC since the Marxist took over the White House by fraud. They have sabotaged the economy which was doing great and now we are seeing the effects of their horrible leadership: prices of everything is going up. There are shortages left and right and restaurants closing because that can’t get anyone to work due to all the funny money coming out of DC. It is pure insanity and no one seems to care. The media continues to support the marxist takeover and the Republicans continue to be weak and spineless. How much further can we go? I do not know. All I know is that Yahweh reigns absolutely and supremely. He knows the future and He will bring it to a climax. When he does, all of creation will worship HIM. I think I’ll get a head start and worship HIM today, amen!

Another beautiful fall day. It’s a shame we can’t take a day trip and enjoy it but our to-do list is a mile and June keeps adding to it. Squeak is broke down at Seths and has to be hauled to the shop. My John Deere is acting up and has to go back to Cullman. Now I have a freezer to move, a commode to install, a floor to repair and the bad news is: I don’t want to do any of them. I know, I should be thankful that I am able.

Fish Fry tomorrow night at the POINT. We will have it outside weather permitting but you better bring a jacket. Fellowship only, not service. Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
