God Is Watching

Scripture

When birds are sold, two sparrows cost only a penny. But not even one of those little birds can die without your Father knowing it…So don’t be afraid. You are worth more than a whole flock of birds.

Your sins may darken the awareness of God’s love, but they cannot darken the reality of His love.

The above verses inspired Civilla Martin to write the beautiful hymn HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW…Why should I feel discouraged, and why should the shadows come, why should my heart feet lonely and long for heaven and my home? When Jesus is my portion, a constant friend is He. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. The sparrow is an unattractive dirty little bird. They are known for making a mess and are hated by many. They sold them in Jesus time here on earth and they were very cheap. You could get two for a penny. The Jews regarded them as Kosher and allowed them to be used by the poor for sacrifice. Other than that, they were cheap and worthless. Yet Jesus assures us that the Father cares for these dirty little birds. I read about a cartoon of a sparrow lying on the couch of a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist says, “So Mr. Sparrow, what is on your mind today?” The sparrow says, “Here lately, I have this constant feeling that someone has their eye on me.”

I like that; it is a great feeling to know that our Heavenly Father watches over us. Not because we are good or that we a loved by the world, but simply because He loves us. If He cares about the sparrows, how much more does He care for those who are created in His image.
