How Long?

Scripture

How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

~Psalms 13:2, NLT

Quote

It is a dangerous thing to give in to our feeling because feelings are deceptive and unreliable.

God had promised David the throne but things were not going well, no throne was in sight. All David could see was the gallows with Saul and his army in pursuit of him day and night. David asked the same question, the saints in heaven asks [Rev. 6:10], “How long?” Or as Ty would put it, “How much longer?” David was struggling with anguish in his soul. He was battling sorrow everyday. He was overwhelmed by the enemies strength. It was a difficult and troubling time in David’s life. We are all going to go through difficult times when we feel deserted and forsaken. When we feel like God has forgotten us or He is looking the other way. David issued four HOW LONGS:

  • How long will you forget me? Forever?
  • How long will you look the other way?
  •  How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul?
  •  How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

{Habakkuk asked the same question as David, “How long, LORD, must I call for help, but You do not listen.” Hab. 1:2}

BUT is the conjunction that turns the corner in verse 5, But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the LORD because he is good to me. David moved from his emotions to his will. Verses 1-4 are the heart talking BUT verses 5-6 are the will. In these verses David issues three wills:

  • I will trust Your unfailing love.
  • I will rejoice in my salvation.
  • I will sing to the LORD.

No matter how you feel, you can do all three right now if you choose to; it is up to you.

Joe David is in the air and headed home, PTL. First of 3 flights, a total of 24 hours of flying time. Scheduled to arrive in Atlanta tomorrow at 3:30 our time.

They are doing surgery on Vickie Livingston today. She has a hole in one of her lungs. I will probably go on down right after Ken’s COLS.

I spoke to the SOUTHSIDE 39’s yesterday at lunch and I loved it. Wouldn’t mind having a opt like this on a daily basis. Got a story to tell but I’m out of time today.
