Knowing God

Scripture

Jesus answered, “Don’t you know me, Philip? I have been among you such a long time! Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

John 14:9, NIRV

These do-it-yourself religions on the market today quickly degenerate into a projection of their creator. By creating our own god,  we combine the comfort of believing in god with the pleasure of being god.

How can we know an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal and invisible God? Answer: only if HE reveals Himself to us. This is what Jesus is explaining to Philip who wanted to see the Father. Jesus said, “You have seen Me, since I and the Father are one, you have seen the Father.” Can we know God? The answer is a definite yes: He reveals Himself in the holy scriptures and in His Son Jesus. You and I have not seen Jesus as did Philip but we know Him through the scriptures. How did we get the scripture? Peter answers that question: Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. {I Peter 1:20-21} The Apostle Paul said, All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” The word “inspired” literally means “God breathed”. God’s inspired word is objective truth and it stands alone. It does not need any one’s approval and we certainly cannot change it. This is why Baptist are so strict about inerrancy or infallibility of scripture.

It doesn’t matter what you and I think–all that matters is what God said. Our words have no substance but God’s word contains life. It is impossible for you and I to create something greater than ourselves. Things are revealed in God’s word that we cannot fully comprehend but this is good; who would want to worship a God that we could fully comprehend. Oprah Windbag said, “One of the biggest mistakes human make is to believe there is only one way, actually, there are many diverse paths leading to what you call God.” Oprah is full of bull. She is playing god by making such a statement. All religions are conjured up by men or women like Oprah who contradict scripture with their own false beliefs. These false prophets create a god that people are attracted to because they can believe in god and retain the freedom to do what they want. By creating a smorgasbord of gods, people pick the one that best suits them. How convenient!

You can know God but not a part from Scripture. Once you study the scripture, you may not like the God it reveals but at least you will know the one true God. He does not show partiality. He is not influenced by the opinions of men. As stated in HIS name: “I AM WHAT I AM,” which means, “HE IS WHAT HE IS.” Your best response is to deal with it because He is not subject to change. Hell is not my idea and I am not the ONE who said “homosexuality is an abomination.” [Leviticus 18:22] I did not make the rules. I am subject to them just like everyone else. God did not check with me before He established the law and He did not check with Oprah either.
