Scripture

“There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

~Luke 18:22, NLT

Quote

Those who lay up treasures in heaven, look forward to going there and have no trouble saying ‘Goodbye’ to this world.

bro-jack-at-christmasWilliam Barclay tells a very interesting story in his commentary on Luke’s gospel. It is about a wealthy woman who was a Christian but lived basically for herself. She died and was transported to heaven. She was greeted by an angel who told her that his assignment was to take her to her dwelling place. As they walked through the Celestial City there were mansion that would take one’s breath away. As soon as the woman saw one she liked, she said, “I bet that one is mine.” “No,” said the attending Angel, “That one belongs to someone else.” The further they went, the smaller the heavenly dwelling became. The dear lady kept trying to claim those she liked but the Angel kept saying “No, this one is not yours.” Finally they reached the area of town where there were tiny huts and she began protesting, “My dwelling cannot be here, we must go back.” The Angel said, “No, your dwelling in right over there,” pointing to a small hut. She said, “There must be some mistake, my house on earth was much bigger and nicer than this tiny hut.” “I’m very sorry,” said the Angel, “But that was all we could build with the materials you sent us.”
