The Curse Of The Sword

Scripture

Now therefore, the sword will never leave your house because you despised Me and took the wife of Uriah the Hethite to be your own wife.’

~ 2 Samuel 12:10 (CSB)

Quote

Every man has the liberty to make his own choices but no man is free from the consequences of the choices he makes.

~Ya’akov

Michal, one of David wives, looked down on him, she despised him in her heart. I would caution you not to make the same mistake. David disregarded the LORD’s commandment by taking another man’s wife. The LORD considered David’s behavior as evil, pure evil {2 Sam.2:9}. The LORD spared David’s life but David’s innocent son died in his stead, just as Jesus died for our evil. It is hard for commoners like myself to identify with David who was a king. David was above the law. Legally, he knew that he could get by with his crimes. You and I don’t have that kind of power. Temptation always involves two things: power [ability] and opportunity. David had the power and Bathsheba gave him the opportunity. Daniel and Nehemiah were never tempted to do what David did because they lacked the ability. Then there are those who have the ability and yet they never get the opportunity. Until these two things converge, you have not been fully tempted. David knew all along that he was doing wrong but his ignorance lay in the fact that he didn’t understand the consequences of his sin. This is going to sound far-fetched but I had a man come to my office some twenty years ago and tell me that he was going to divorce his wife. He had every thing planned to the detail. He made this statement: “David did it and the LORD forgave him and He will forgive me also.” I told him, “You need to go back and reread your bible, because you have missed some very important details: that being the consequences of David’s sinful choice.”

If you will read 2 Samuel prayerfully, you will see two different Davids. The successful David who is victorious where ever he goes and the regretful David who sees his family destroyed by resentment, jealousy and lust. The line dividing his life is 2 Samuel chapter eleven which gives the details of his adulterous affair. David is your original Humpty-Dumpty, after his fall, all the kings horses and all the kings men could not put David’s life together again. David’s sin brought the curse of the sword upon his family. You do not want that curse in your family. A once strong family where his sons were his assistents and all ate at the same table became a divided family. The sword divides and kills. Amnon, David’s son, rapes his sister Tamar. Absalom then murders Amnon and the sword continues to wrech havoc on David’s family for the entirety of his life. Bathsheba is a controlling, conieving female who makes sure that her children are the priviledged ones. She could play the step-mother in Cinderella. Without saying too much, I have seen this story enacted myself. I know men who divorced their wives to get a younger model but in the end, there was hell to pay. I’ve had a couple to be honest with me and to confess their deep regret for being selfish. There is no way David would stand and tell a group of men, “Go for it guys. If you see it and want it, take it. You only live once so have all the fun you can.” He would have to be an utter fool to give such counsel and he was no fool. You are a bigger fool if you disregard the consequences of sin. Trust me men, you don’t want to follow David’s example–you don’t want the curse of the sword in your family.

By the way, have you ever noticed Matthew genealogy of Jesus…“and Jesse fathered King David. David fathered Solomon by Uriah’s wife.” King of strange, nine hundred years later, in God’s word, Bathsheba is still Uriah’s wife.

  • I was reading the IMPRIMIS last night and the article this month is about modern technology. If you owe a smart phone, you have more technology in that phone than it took to put a man on the moon. Astounding, is it not! The author pointed out the freedom we have to travel since the automobile was invented but with every technological advance, there are attending problems. With automobiles came traffic laws, wrecks, etc. Since the invention of the automobile, over 3.5 million Americans have been killed in fatal crashes. A problem we did not have with horse and buggy. The Smart Phone has done to communication what the automobile did to transportation. Now we have GOOGLE and FaceBook. We all know the good that they do {you have more info in your Smart Phone that is contained in the best Library} but are we aware of the negative impacts. Google and FaceBook know more about you than you know about yourself and the bad thing is that they command a duopoly {80% of the Social Media}. Google can ruin your business or severely hamper it by de-ranking you. Since the great majority use google as their search engine, if they remove you from the system you will wither in obscurity. We know this because they did it to some companies that Obama did not like. Google has such a monopoly that conservative search engines cannot get off the ground. I’m a big part of the problem because google has 80% of the data and I want the data. Even more frightening is the fact that Smart Phones can be used to track your every move and could some day be used in a court of law if the right or wrong people get access to the info.

  • Letter to Demos: Dear Democrats: I’m planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me. We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements. We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, the President of Mexico, that I’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
    • Free medical care for my entire family.
    • English-speaking Government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
    • Please print all Mexican Government forms in English.
    • Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.
    • I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.
    • Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
    • I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
    • I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but I don’t plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.
    • I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my housetop, put U.S. flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
    • Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.
    • I want to receive free food stamps.
    • Naturally, I’ll expect free rent subsidies. I’ll need income tax credits so that although I don’t pay Mexican taxes, I’ll receive money from the government.
