The Flawless Word

Scripture

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

~Proverbs 30:5, NIV

Quote

The bible is not flawed: man is flawed.

~Ya’akov

I am currently reading Timothy Keller’s devotional on Proverbs. I’m telling you this because today’s blog comes from his thoughts. Of course I can’t share his thoughts without my editorial notes. There is a not of clamour about different gods. The Muslims worship Allah but he is not the same god that Christians worship. Our God is Yahweh, the self-existent, eternal, immutable God of creation. How do we know that we are trusting the real God and not some figment of man’s creation? We get to know God, the One true God, through scripture. The scripture is God’s revelation of Himself to us and his word is infallable and flawless. We live in an age of reason; we are hearing it said on a daily basis, “the bible is antiquated and outdated; it is not longer relevant in today’s world.” These less than intelligent people believe that morality evolves. There is one big problem, their so called “New Morality,” is just old immorality.

These folks are making two tragic mistakes: First that assume the bible is just another book and that it is outdated. The second is their assumption that their insights are paramount to biblical revelation. They believe their opinion is as good as scripture or even superior. You and I know, they are full of it; they are doing what pagans have always done–not really anything new or progressive about it–they are creating their own god from their vile imaginations. The God of scripture is not a God that any human would create. He cannot be seen, imagined, controlled or manipulated. He is infinte in all His attributes and above all He is holy. Trust me, flawed humans cannot and would not create a holy God. Neither God nor His word are outdated. The world would be wise to fear the LORD and keep His commandments.
