The Song Of Moses

Scripture

Let the Sunrise of Your love end our dark night! Break through our clouded dawn! Only You can satisfy our hearts…We have been overwhelmed with grief, come now and overwhelm us with gladness.

~Psalm 90:14-15, Passion Bible

Quote

Psalm ninety teaches us that life here on earth is not only short; it is miserable, so that it may well be called ‘a daily death.’

~Martin Luther

Sin has marred, broken and cursed the world in which we live. It does take awhile to see it clearly but this world is not the answer; it will never please us or satisfy us. Luther saw Jesus in Psalm 90 and so do I. I have highlighted the places where I see Jesus.

  • Let the Sunrise of Your love end our dark night.
  • Only You can satisfy our hearts, filling us with Songs of Joy to the end of our days.
  • Come now and overwhelm us with Gladness
  • Replace our troubles with Delight
  • LORD, let your Sweet Beauty rest upon us.

Jesus is all these things to me and much, much more. In this Psalm, Moses talks about the miserable burden we bear because of sin. Sin brought both suffering and death when Adam opened the door by his rebellion. We are surrounded by a sea of sin, suffering and chaos. It is everywhere and everyday. Moses said, “All our faults and flaws are in full view of God’s watchful eyes. He can expose everything we are hiding.” Just think what it would be like to face His wrath without the blood of Christ. In verse 9, the Septuagint reads, “All our days have been filled with failure.” I like verse 10 in the Septuagint even better, “Our best years are marred by tears and toils…until we mellow and accept Gods correction.”

The mellowing process is real; I can testify to the fact; so for me aging has been more of a friend than an enemy. I have lost my desire to disagree with God or to resent His restraints and disciplines. Whatever He wants, I want. I am not saying I know exactly what that is or that I have no fear; I am just saying Mary’s reply to Gabriel is my prayer: “Be it unto me, according to Your word.”

In Sunday school last week we got to talking about the upcoming election and the democrats wanting everyone to vote, legal or illegal. It doesn’t matter if they speak English or pay taxes. I said, and I mean it, “No one should be allowed to vote who does not pay taxes.” If you don’t pay the fiddler, you have no right on the dance floor. One of my good friends said, “I think a person should be a land owner to vote.” I said, “I agree although that would leave me out. I don’t own any land.” One of them spoke up immediately, “You have a burial plot don’t you?” I said, “Yes, I sure do and that is land.” I am glad I have the Eternal God as my refuge.

I think Big Mike may come home this weekend. I am planning to run over at the lunch hour and sneak in a visit. Mid-day traffic in Huntsville is much better than evening and I don’t like traffic. From Poor House Road to the four-way, I met 20 cars going the other way last night. It is a little better at 7:30 going home but not much. We have only five more Wednesday night services before the time change and then we will be going in the day light. It is good to see the sun shining today. I need a week of dry weather.

God bless you, have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
