Inevitable Conflict

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

~I John 2:25, NIV

Stand for Christ and you will be judged by the world; stand with this world and you will be judged by God.

~Grace Wesley

I’m not sure I made myself clear in Sunday night’s message. Conversion produces a radical change. Once we become a follower of Jesus Christ, we are out of sync with the world and the world is out of sync with us. How can I have anything in common with a world that hates Christ? This is why Jesus said, “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Your enemies will be right in your own household! If you love your father or mother more than you love Me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than Me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you refuse to take up your cross and follow Me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for Me, you will find it. I’d say this is radical teaching, wouldn’t you and Jesus meant every word. You and I have nothing is common with this world. It has nothing for us and we should have nothing for it. If you love the world, you don’t love Jesus.
