Scripture
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when God chose you. Not many of you were considered wise by human standards. Not many of you were powerful. Not many of you belonged to important families.
~I Corinthians 1:26, NIrV

God uses imperfect instruments, it is all He has.
~Elisebeth Elliot
We had an interesting discussion in our LCBS class last Sunday: Can God bless His word when it is preached by a person who is not practicing what he is preaching? The answer is easy: it is YES! God’s word is divine truth, it is objective and absolute. The truth revealed in God’s word has nothing to do with our performance. This halo wearing crowd that concentrates on their spiritual growth rather than the lost world likes to use statements such as: “God only uses clean instruments.” Horse feathers, there are several things wrong with this statement: [1] First of all, it is not true. God used Pharaoh. God used Nebuchadnezzar. Jack Taylor says God uses the devil. [2] The statement glorifies the instrument instead of the One who is using the instrument. It would be like praising the scalpel instead of the surgeon. Never sell God short. He can use whomever whenever He chooses and for good reason. God wisely planned that the world would not know Him via it’s own wisdom. It pleased God to use the foolish, the weak, the common and the despised so that He would get the glory. If God only used the highly intelligent, the strong, the VIP’s and the celebrities; people would give them the praise. As it is, no one can boast because it is God who is doing the work in spite of our low pedigree and imperfections. I marvel at the grace and patience of God–He methodically accomplishes His purposes through folks like me.
THIS DAY IN 2000
Spent the day preparing to teach the WINTER BIBLE STUDY at Sardis Springs. Lord willing, I will be teaching it again this year. I think is 19 in a row. They are very tolerant people.
Got a little arctic air but it could be much worse. I worked outside yesterday but not in a T-shirt. The rain plus the wind made it rather chilly. Busy weekend: Ty Bo is in a basketball tournament. GOLDEN GIRLS in the morning and SUPER BOWL PARTY Sunday evening.
John McCain is a disgrace and should resign: so should the governor.
