Praising Is Pleasing

Scripture

He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human might. No, the LORD ’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Psalm 147:10-11, NLT

Seven Days without worship makes one weak.

The Hebrew word châphêts which is translated delight in NLT means to delight in, take pleasure in, desire, or to be pleased with. What exactly is God pleased with? Is it even possible for the finite to please the infinite? When I think of things that please God, humble service or obedience is the first thing that comes to mind but here the Psalmist mentions corporate worship. Many people believe that Psalm 147 is a call to worship for the returning exiles. Dr. Steven Lawson says, “Coming to public worship to celebrate God’s goodness and greatness is one of the most important aspects of the Christian life.” He believes faithful worship attendance is linked to our spiritual growth. I agree, we need each other. The only part of human anatomy that does not grow in size is the eye. Everything else grows and it grows together. It would be weird if every thing grew except the head or the feet. Can you imagine a 250 pound man with tiny baby feet? The body of Christ is no different, we grow together. I need you and you need me. I can discourage you and you can discourage me. All you have to do to discourage others is lay out of worship. It pleases God when we revere Him, fear Him, praise Him, extol Him, and worship Him in spirit and truth. He is not pleased when we put our interest before the interest of others. He is not pleased when we forsake the assembly. Scripture says we must come together to encourage each other.

Do you want to please God? I don’t think some folks give it a thought. You can please him this Sunday by showing up for worship. I am afraid a lot of folks attend worship to accumulate points and I hate to be the barer of bad news but we are not on a point system like the Pharisees. By the way, they were faithful in they synagogue attendance but it didn’t impress Jesus. We can attend worship for the wrong reasons and that has to be displeasing to God. He is pleased when our desire is to please him and edify others. I don’t think God is pleased with all our mini-vacations that we take at the expense of the assembly. I think He would be more please if we guarded the day of worship and used our vacation time for out trips. Take your trips Monday through Saturday. Of course I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Today is the big day; much bigger than Alabama/Auburn game or any bowl game. Today we find out if the folks of Alabama have been conned by the media. I am voting for life which means I am voting for Judge Moore. There are no pro-life democrats and Doug Jones is no exception. Richard Shelby needs to be put before a firing squad for treason; he is a traitor. I knew he was a RINO but I never thought he would stoop this low. Jeff Session is a huge disappointment. Both need to resign: they are not fit to serve the people of Alabama. I know one thing, I am sick and tired of hearing the democratic propaganda: it is one lie after the other. I need your prayers folks. I am going to be one depressed human if the demos steal this seat by deceit. Democrats have no principles. They are pragmatist: they don’t see anything wrong with lying so long as they get their way; just like they see no wrong in killing babies. I emailed Shelby and Sessions last night. Neither will be happy with my comments. Of course neither will read them but hopefully other unhappy people have responded in kind.
