The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
~Psalm 19:9-10, NIV
The bible has the power to show and restore your true identity.
I stand amazed at David’s insight and understanding. Psalm 19 is a masterpiece. David begins with God’s powerful witness of creation. The natural world reveals God’s power and wisdom. The mountains speak of His majesty, the oceans of His immensity, the stars speak of his awesome greatness and the sun of His universal influence and life giving power. We would know that God is great just by observing His art work but would we know about His love and saving grace? Are you not glad that God didn’t leave us to stumble in the darkness but that He gave us the revelation of HIS WORD. First we have the written word and of course David is referring primarily to the books of Moses [we have so much more] and then we have the incarnate or Living Word. Read Psalm 19 and make a list of things the word of God [bible] can do for you:
- It can refresh your soul
- It can make you wise
- It will give joy to the heart
- It will give light to the eyes
- It will reveal your hidden faults
- It will enable you to discern your own errors
For the bible to do all these things; you must accept it as the perfect word of God. You must study the bible not simply to gain knowledge but to know the Author. You search the scriptures and you allow them to search you. If you are ever going to find yourself and come to understand your purpose, you will do so by bible study. All the answers to your life questions are in the scriptures. No wonder David valued the word of God more than gold. If I were to be locked in solitary confinement, the one thing I would ask for would be my bible.
By the way, a lot of good men died so you and I could have a bible in our language. Cherish the word of God, it is a precious gift that did not come cheaply.
We are off to GOLDEN GIRLS and then to Athens for a COLS. We hope you have a great day and weekend.
