Whose Side Is Jesus On?

Scripture

Had it not been Yahweh who was on our side when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive.

~Psalm 124:2, LSB

Quote

The Father sent His Son Jesus so that amid all of the ups and downs of life, we are guaranteed a faithful companion who loves us and is for us.

~Dana Ortlund

If you want to get the left stirred up, just talk about the LORD being on our side. The truth is–He is on our side. Our real enemy is not flesh and blood. Our real enemy is not other people, not even those who are lost or those who are members of pagan or hate religions. The flood that is sweeping over this country is evil. Our real enemy is Satan who is the inspiration and mastermind for wickedness and evil. He encourages rebellion against Yahweh. He hates Jesus and he hates humanity. He does not love mankind. He is not capable of loving anyone other than himself. What unbelievers fail to understand is that we all have one common enemy, the devil— alias Lucifer, Satan, the angel of light, the deceiver, the ancient serpent, the Prince of Darkness, the god of this world. Satan uses Muslims but he doesn’t love them. He uses Marxist but he doesn’t love them. In fact, he is destroying them as we speak. They have all followed him in rebellion against Yahweh and it will lead to their destruction which is Satan’s delight. So when we say that God is for us, we are not saying that He is against the unbelieving world. We were all unbelieving at one time. We are simply saying Jesus is for us. He came to this planet for us. He lived a perfect life for us. He died for us. Paul said, “If God is for us, who can stand against us.”

In this world, there will be trying times. Times of sickness, tragedy, need, uncertainty, political unrest and conflict. There may be some conflict in your own family, in your marriage, among your co-workers, in your church, and in your committee meetings. Conflict must be expected in a fallen world. There is also spiritual conflict and there is conflict within our selves. We say something stupid and immediately regret it. Then we can’t get our mistake off our minds for days. We lose our temper and then wonder in amazement, how did that happen? We give into temptation which leads to misery and regret. We have dark thoughts and doubts. We battle fears and insecurities. The good news is that during all these times, Jesus is with us and for us. He is standing with us because He is on our side and we had better be thankful. Without Jesus protection, evil would swallow us whole. A part from Jesus, we don’t have a prayer. No mere human will ever win the battle against Satan, sin, and the flesh. Our only hope is Jesus.
