Surrender

Scripture

Depend on the LordTrust in him, and he will help you. He will make it as clear as day that you are right.

~Psalm 37:5-6, ERV

Quote

God does not help those who help themselves; he helps those who trust Him and rely on Him.

~Jonathan Roumie

Who is blue blazes is Jonathan Roumie? Until I read a devotion in OUR DAILY BREAD, I had no idea. Jonathan is the man who plays Jesus in the CHOSEN. He also plays the drums for Matt Maher’s band {occassionally}. A few years ago Jonathan was out of work and was down to his last meal. I am not sure when he became a professing Christian but I am sure that as such, he belongs to a very small group of actors who are believers in Christ. In quiet desperation, he bowed his head and poured out his heart to God. Basically, he said, “I surrendered, my life, my career, my everything to Christ.” The most amazing thing happened. He got three checks in the mail the next day from jobs previously done and then he landed the role of Jesus in the CHOSEN.

Psalm 37 has some wonderful advice and great promises. This is one of the passages that gave me direction during a critical part of my life’s journey

Trust in the Lord and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.

Take delight in the Lord,
and He will give you your heart’s desires.

Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust Him, and He will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for Him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.

Four Commands: Trust the LORD, Delight in the LORD, Commit everything to the LORD and Wait patiently for the LORD to act. Four promises: You will prosper, you will get your heart’s desire, He will help you and make you shine and He will deliver you from anxiety. It is not a quick fix; there is a lot of waiting. Waiting is not all that bad when we learn to do it patiently. Ultimately, He will give you the desires of your heart. Trust Him to do so and wait patiently for Him to fulfill the promise.

Extra

49ers fellowship today at 11:30 and soccer game at 3:00. The girls have a chance to set a new DHS record. They are 17-3-2. No team has ever won more than 20 games. Of course this means we have to win today and two games in the play offs. It will not be easy.

Josh and I plan to go see Ken in the morning. Ken has had an up and down week; more down than up. Josh is preaching Sunday so I have a little extra time this week.

Have a Good Friday and a great weekend. Thanks for reading the blog.
