Scripture
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.
~Galatians 6:1-2, NLT
Quote
I can repeat the golden rule until I am black in the face, but I cannot really carry it out until I love my neighbor as much as I love myself.
~C.S. Lewis {Mere Christianity}
Life can be a strain from time to time. Our burden grow heavy as we carry out our responsibilities. I have a lot of friends who are struggling. Some are dealing with life threatening illness, some declining health and others trying to adjust to being displaced. Loneliness is a big issue in my line of work. Basically, every where I go people are hurting. My calling is to love them and stand with them in the crisis. Sure, I would like to pretend that cancer does not exist but this is not reality. I wonder about these folks that avoid hurting people. You put a mouse in front of a cat and you will find out if you have a cat. You putting a hurting person in front of professing Christian and you will find out if you have a real Christian.
According to Mr. Webster, relief is a feeling of reassurance and relaxation following release from anxiety or distress. It is exuberant joy we feel when a burden is lifted. All our burdens are temporal. Relief is on the way. Remember the old hymn, “Burdens are lifted at Calvary.” The song is talking about our burden of sin but there is coming a day when all burdens will be lifted. In the meantime, we must help one another bear their burdens. It is the law of Christ the great burden bearer. Is there someone you could help today? Something you could do to make their burden lighter?
