May you live to enjoy your grandchildren!

~Psalm 128:6, TLB

Quote

Enjoy the age stage of life you are in rather than fearing it or wishing for a different one.

~Timothy Keller

A pandemic (from Greek πᾶν pan “all” and δῆμος demos “people”) is a disease epidemic that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents, or even worldwide. A widespread endemic disease with a stable number of infected people is not a pandemic. Further, flu pandemics generally exclude recurrences of seasonal flu. Throughout history, there have been a number of pandemics of diseases such as smallpox and tuberculosis. One of the most devastating pandemics was the Black Death, which killed an estimated 75–200 million people in the 14th century. Compared to smallpox, tuberculosis, the black plague, the swine flu and others–Covid-19 has not been as fatal. The black plague killed over one third of Europe’s population. Some estimate the death toll to have been much higher. No one is denying the reality of Covid-19: it has been grossly over-hyped, this is the point and some don’t seem to get it or make the connection. Anyway, this discussion is beside the point.

Different people have reacted differently to the virus. Some are terrified and others are unafraid. This is not conjecture: it is a fact that the virus has divided us. You do not see a lot of young people who are afraid. People who have weaned themselves from the nightly news are not afraid. I have senior adults tell me how much they miss their grand children. Our experience is the total opposite. One of the good things about the virus is it has enabled us to spend more time with our grands. A crew ate breakfast at Big Mama’s this morning before going to school. Our house is grand central station. Every grand child we have except one have taken a meal from Big Mama’s kitchen in the past 48 hours and that is exactly what I want.

I do remember being a child and having grand parents. I personally, never knew any greats. It is great to have grand parents but I think it is even better to be one. I loved Christmas and the gifts from St. Nick but my love for Christmas grew in leaps and bounds when I became St. Nick’s helper. At 71 you can’t run, jump and play ball or at least I can’t but there are many things I can do. I enjoy reading and praying more than ever. I enjoy preaching more than ever. All though I am on a diet, I enjoy eating as much as ever. I have a gold card which gets me into the ball games free. I am semi-retired: I go to bed when I want to and get up when I want to and I take a nap in the middle of the day if I want to. All this is legal because I am retired. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Yes, I do enjoy my grand children. I live to create good memories for them.

I rarely write and post a blog on the same day but when I looked at the one for today, it was another political rant and I figured you were tired of those. The above I had started but not finished. It is hard to proof your own work on the same day of the writing. When you wait a day or so, the errors are easier to find. I am having problems with WORD PRESS so that when I post, I cannot go back and edit so today’s may have more errors than normal.

Today is our 49th wedding anniversary; will be at 6:00 this evening. June wants to ride up to Ethridge and visit the Amish so in a few minutes we will head North. I would like to take some credit for the accomplishment but I can’t honestly do that: I have stayed married for 49 years by the grace of God and the patience of June. Honestly, I get no credit.

GRACE POINT FAMILY…I am looking forward to Sunday and we do not know if we will have an outdoor baptism or not. Too-Tall has us ready. I am thrilled to announce one change coming up September 13th. We will begin having children’s church in the Sanctuary while the adults are in the parking lot. The time remains the same: we will meet at 8:30. We will continue with the coffee table and donut holes. Spread the word–CHILDREN’S CHURCH begins September 13th at 8:30. This going to help and we are thankful that Josh came up with this idea.
