Saints Are Sinners

Scripture

How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered!

~Psalm 32:1, LSB

Quote

All saints are sinners. They cannot become holy or blessed except they confess themselves before God as sinners.

~Martin Luther

I have a new book on the Psalms by Martin Luther and I am loving it. Luther says, and I agree, all the saints are sinners and remain such and are regarded as holy only because God in His grace neither sees nor counts their sins against them, but forgets, forgives and covers them. It is right there in black and white, “whose sin is covered,” but somehow, I had never seen it so clearly as yesterday. Our righteousness is His forgiveness. I have a cut on my left hand. I sliced it trying to slice a roll. The cut is between the thumb and the index finger. No one saw the cut Wednesday night and I talked to several people. No one said, “Bro. Jack, that is a nasty cut, how did that happen?” Do you know why no one saw the cut? Because I had it covered with a Band-Aid. How can God view us as holy when we do not see ourselves as holy? He has covered our sin and with such perfection that He no longer sees the sin but the perfection that He used to cover it. Of course, you recognize that this PERFECTION is the blood of Jesus. Wow, if that doesn’t ring your bell, your clapper is broke.

Today we should thank our Heavenly Father for His mercy and grace. Although we are sinners and were born in sin and continue to fall short every day, He is merciful and forgiving. Thank You Lord Jesus. You have delivered us from death which was the curse of our offenses and You have justified us by your glorious resurrection. Because You arose, we have an advocate before the Father. Had Jesus stayed in the grave, we would have no means of justification.

Extra

June is home and doing well. It was a piece of cake I thought, but the the nerve block wore off. She was telling me what to do before we got in the front door so I assumed we were back to normal but her shoulder began hurting later. She did have a good night. Looks like I will be a domestic slave; washing, cleaning, scrubbing floors and the like.

I don’t have much hope of getting rain. It is real patchy and there isn’t much to the system. This draught may last until Christmas. I never remember a drought at Thanksgiving.

TGIF. Hope you have a good one.
