Psalm 16

Scripture

I said to Yahweh“You are my Maker and my Master. Any good thing You find in me has come from You.”

Quote

Unless you learn to receive, the Christ life will be impossible for you.

I love the Psalms and I like David’s theology. Our Heavenly Father is the supreme progenitor. It is in Him that we exist and have our being. Everything comes from Him and that includes love, mercy, grace and goodness. I love Luke 15 and the story of the Prodigal Son, but over the years, my favorite sermon from this story is the LOVING FATHER. It seems that every time I read a new book, I discover something else about this LOVING FATHER. I just finished George MacDonalds GETTING TO KNOW JESUS and in the course of my listening to this audio book, I got another insight into the greatness of the Father. Both boys came to be by the will and action of the FATHER. He was their progenitor. But this is not what excited me most; what lit my fire was the fact that He was their greatest asset. They were concerned with His estate. Remember, the younger one wanted his share in the present. He did not care about the Father, his eye was on the estate. The older one is no different. He has worked all his life to get the estate. He doesn’t love the Father and the proof is in his disobedience. The younger son repented. He changed his mind, his way of thinking but the elder brother {Pharisees} never gets it: he refuses to change.

Here is what the Prodigal came to realize: his FATHER was his greatest asset. Once this dawned on him, the estate meant nothing. His desire was to come under the authority of his Father. He wanted to please his father and was willing to do whatever the Father commanded. This was the boys thinking…“I will go home to my Father and I will say, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you,and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’ He was not just going home, he was going home to the Father. If you take the Father out of the picture, there is no need to go home. The Father made the home. A home without a father is not an attractive thing. I want to go to heaven but not for heaven’s sake. I want to be with Jesus. Jesus makes heaven. A heaven without Jesus is no heaven. A heaven with out the FATHER is no heaven.

I totally agree with David, Jesus alone is my inheritance. Jesus is my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. He holds my destiny and its timing in His omnipotent hands. His righteous path has led me to pleasant places. I’m overwhelmed by the privileges that come with following Jesus! Wow! Wow! and Wow!
